how do you know if something that you put on the market is ACTUALLY sold? do you get a confirm msg or does the money just appear in you cash?

Look at the blue phone icon on the left hand side. Those are messages. It will go in there and say something like 'market sale' and will say so and so bought 'this amount' of 'this product'. What I can't find is a way to look at your list of stuff you already have up on the market. U'd think there would be a section for your current market auctions or something.

Yes, you by default get messages on market sales. If you would prefer not to, I believe this can be changed in your options.
As for seeing what you have on the market, go to the market screen. There are filters on the right hand side (food, non-food, raw materials, etc). One of these is for "My Own Ads." Click that and you will get a list of just what you are selling.
