Why would you want to fire employees if they only need a 1 time payment ?
Another question
generally is it more efficient to buy another of the same building in the same area if you have lots of slots left or upgrade the existing building

1) More employees = faster production time, so u work it out

Build new and keep building new until you fill all your building slots.

1. There is no reason to fire employees. The option is still there because of Kapi2. (If I remember my history right.)

Was there a good reason to fire people in 'Kapi2'?

Hiring employees wasn't a one time payment so Firing employees was a way to save money.

I use the fire option to drop down the speed of my production so I can convert Q1 or 2 materials to Q0 and not actually make anything and lose product.

Very quick, like 0.98s quick on my facts so its worth it to spend a few k and not produce a bunch of Q1 plastic

Say you have several 4000m buildings and, for some reason, a 4040m building of the same type. You might want to fire 4 employees in the 4040m building so it could be managed exactly the same as the others.
