Power Plant Placement?

Post by Guest » 02.06.2009, 19:12

Simple question: What area should a power plant be placed in?

When I look at the Building Sales section of the forum, they're placed in green, yellow, AND red areas, so that's not really helping...

Which area is best for power plants?

Build them in the Red zone. (Green is better at the start of a Realm. However, overtime when the price of power gets to 0.13 the Red zone becomes the best place.)

Red zones have the highest production rate for power as well don't they?

it's mainly for use in my own production line, and not for sale purposes just yet.

Green
Cost: 0.01 per unit of power

Yellow
Cost: 0.02 per unit of power

Red
Cost: 0.03 per unit of power
25% production bonus

Dont forget the price difference in the realms, in R1 0.03 isent that big when yous sell for 0.25c but its 30% of your sale price in R2 for 25% extra so....
Green when U start Red when u get to 3k+ my rule of thumb

From what I've seen, unless I want to focus on just being a power producer as one of My main incomes then the main use of having a PP is to supply Myself ergo whatever the market it is better for Me to build My PP's in Green for the .01 power cost regardless of the 25% production bonus in red.

By the time production becomes an issue I'd be in a position to either build another PP or expand the one/s I already have.

I might want to go with green then.

I'm a stone supplier, stones require water and power, I want to make water and power for myself.

I've had a well since the beginning of the game (yellow zone)
right now I have 4 mines, and it's time to start building that power plant as well so I don't have to buy anything off the market anymore in order to do my job.

You will make more money building a new mine and buying your power of the market.

A mine, power plant and well will earn you 95,233.00 caps per day
2 mines and a well will earn you 149,534.00 caps per day
2 mines and a power plant will earn you 114,015.00 caps per day
3 mines will earn you 166,320 caps per day

I valued power at .1 and water at .2 for both buying and selling
thats at merchant level I think

I also calculated over 16 mines as thats the amount a power plant can service and it would still have been better to have the extra mine.

I also valued you stones at 20 sold on contract so no selling fee.

Trouble with working things out like that is the value of stability, In house supply is the only 100% reliable fixed cost method, market fluctuates in price (Unless you are buying from the NPC) and contracts fluctuate on timing and reliance on someone else to have their act together when you need them to.

In house rules out the stock input variables and gives you a stable basis for forcasting the rest of your stock management leaving sale price as the only major variable outside your direct control.

If it is a product that you are reliant on someone elses quality levels in order to maximise profit then I can see it being worth doing but for power, viable or not it isn't a route I will be taking.

I'm just going to build a power plant for now.

It will only cost me 0.01 for a unit of power, instead of 0.10+ each.

the only 'loss' I get is the fact that I have to pay for the construction of this power plant, but that money will go straight into Fixed Assets, which I do like :P

As many has pointed out, yeah true, you only pay 0.01 for the power, but you could have earned between .25 and .27 for it on realm 1(.09 and .1 on realm 2), and that's what they mean when they say it's not as straight as production cost

But hell, i also like the simple way of self production :D

And power market is a quite stable market

It's nice to be able to produce all your products by yourself :)

Even if the market is really stable, usually when I'd buy, it was 0.10 on Realm2, I once had the luck to be able to buy it for only 0.08
