Steel

I can't claim to be an expert, and am not in any way, as i produce only 4000 steel a day, and none of it for the market (It is for expansion). However, i find that when i make EVERYTHING myself (minerals, power, water, chemicals, coal, iron ore), i can get the price down to roughly $25 from the $135 the NPC sells for. The only issue is, 4000 a day is not enough, and it was expensive (for me) to set it up initially, but you are saving roughly $110 a unit, which in batch of 4000+, is good for a small company.
Just my thoughts! No real judgement just showing what can be done.

I entirely agree with the points of true production cost, and have expressed this before.

the problem with steel is the time it takes for mines to produce enough coal and iron
if steel only took 2 coal and 1 iron, then the cost would be lower
higher quality of coal and iron would also be worth more, so you'd see a few specialists
instead, coal and iron quality have so little value that they must compete with stones, which are selling for at least 20...
I will gladly pay 20 for any stones sent to me
