Voting to kick cheaters

Post by Guest » 12.03.2007, 21:56

Hey,
There are a lot of topics talking about cheaters and ways that would help to prevent them. Most of the solutions proposed (if not all) have been refused because they are not effective or because they are too hard to implement. But in my opinion something must be done to prevent this. If cheaters become too frequent the game will stop being fun...

Right now while i'm writing this there's one guy creating lots of accounts and selling water, power, steel, stones and wood at 0.01 each...he has already sold milions of units...

One idea came to my mind...not sure if it will work...
Each player could vote in other players. When a player gets a certain number of votes he's account would be locked and only a game admin could unlock it or something like that. The votes of bigger companies could also have a bigger value or something like that. This way players could dinamically exclude cheaters like this from the game.

I know that this solutions must be very hard to implement...but something must be done...i think.

Thanks for reading all this,
Lunden

well, its true that he can always create more accounts, but the account would be locked very fast. There are lots of players...if an account would take 2 minutes to be blocked he would probably get tired of creating a new account every 2 minutes.
Or the votes could block his IP instead of his account...I don't know...it's just another idea.

Sorry... I really understand that you want to get rid of them... believe me: me too!

But this system would open a door for getting rid of players I just don't like.
I could (although not allowed!) open up 500 companies... vote for my "enemy" and would not have to "pay" for the service of having others to vote for him. (what definitely would happen....)

Well that's true but there could be only one vote allowed by each IP. So the 500 companies would have the same IP and could vote only once :P

This is just another idea...probably you have already thought about lots of them but i'm just trying to help :P

ya because you guys play at school i think schools should realy do something about trying to get kids to stay off games at school as no one should be playing games at school it is a place to learn not play. now i do know some times a game may teach something but if the teacher lets ya play that one game then let that be

An IP ban is a terrible idea. It might be the best way to find people with multiple accounts but its been said before. Many people might want to log in from school and other public places. These people will then be unable to play.

It would however be easy for someone to set up a router at home to give one of your computers one external IP and another a different one. This would then go on unnoticed.

I was thinking, if it is just possible to forbid players to use the market in the first 15 or perhaps 30 minutes after creating a new account.

This way it wont be possible to buy and sell everything from an account, reset or delete the account, start a new one and repeat this process all over again in a few minutes.

The cheaters would perhaps become tired and honorable new players wont mind to wait this time until using the buying and selling options of the market.
