Forum Time Confusion

Post by Guest » 31.08.2007, 14:27

there has been a lot of confusion in the forum. people are saying that the there is something wrong with the software used to track the time.

If you set your profile clock to GMT +1 it actually shows your posting times as GMT +2

This is because the Kapi-forum GMT Zulu time is NOT correct

I say make sure to state in the rules it is FORUM GMT time. That way we never have the same problem again.

Sorry... there have been several misunderstandings.
I guess the way Azer pointed it out would make things easier.

Please do not worry to much - we will work out a solution for this!
As long as we will work on this we all have to stick to that, what is claimed out here: http://www.forum.kapilands.com/viewtopic.php?t=120
There will be an official annoucement on this when we found a solution!

Sorry again.

PS: Attention! Do not send me any more PMs about this topic, please! I got 13 PMs during the last hour and there is no chance for me to handle them adequate. Thanks!

if the forum could just use THIS clock , would be much easier due the fact that GMT does not include Summer/winter hours ....

So if for example you live in belgium ( like me ^^ ) , the general rule isthat you say
i live in GMT+1 , altrough actually your living in GMT + 1 / 2

Your post:

According the rules that are actual at the moment the following one won this auction.

BUT - the moderators are working on an easier way of finding the "guideline time".
As long as we are thinking about this we will stick to this rule:
http://www.forum.kapilands.com/viewtopic.php?t=120

But the forum clock is not correct and hasn't been. TRUE gmt time right now is 1 hour off from the forum clock. in ALL THe posts it is saying 'we do not use forum time or server time' use gmt time. But setting forum clock right now due to the change in daylights has the forum clock at GMT +1 in reality instead of actual GMT. Which is why i thought the reason the link ATTENTION SUMMERTIME was posted so people could just click on the link and see the actual time being used which is either gmt +2 or STRAIGHT GMT!. If straight gmt then the forum clock is WRONG. At this point it is not an argument for the auction that started all this it is the need to always be able to tell EXACTLY what time it is for auction purposes. So can we forgo forum/servers all that because that has to be adjusted for daylights. True GMT NEVER changes and that is why it should be used which is what the link should be set. Then if people don't want to use the link they can adjust their forum time accordingly.

I guess what i am trying to say is what your saying in your post at the end of auction is a link that says GMT will be used. But in the link it says TRUE GMT cause it mentions nothing about FORUM gmt. If that is the case then the auction didn't end tell an hour later and Jin would have won it.

Unless the Kapi-forum tech team can correct the standard GMT time to correct GMT it is no good using GMT as an auction time.

It is always easier to use a GMT time and not a zone time (eg: GMT + or -) as GMT never changes.

The only problem is that for any Kapi-forum user, who sets their profile time setting to GMT will actually see the wrong time posted in the threads, because the Kapi-server clock, although it states "All times are GMT" they are in fact GMT+1. The Kapi-server time software is not adjusted to GMT.

As Azer says, the only way to cure the 'time problem' is to sate that all auctions are to use 'Kapi-forum time' - I also have to add that there should be no reference made to GMT at all (as this is too confusing).

If the tech-team can change the wording from "All times are GMT" to read "Kapi-forum time" and in the user profile time preference section, re-name "GMT" to read "Kapi-forum time" - this would solve all the problems :D
