I think it explains quite a lot about expansion.
And: Yes, there is a limit of expansion.
"normal" buildings: 32767 sqm
special buildings: 5000sqm
These limit are per building! There will nothing happen when you reach this limit... you simply wont be able to expand that building anymore.
