Confused about 'Cheaters'
Ok. I am a bit confused here.
I have read quite a few threads here that are calling people cheaters when they send another player a contract for a very low price.
For example I got a contract this morning for 500 Bananas at 0,5c. The comma character made me look twice. I haven't accepted it or declined it yet.
What is the deal with this?
Thanks,

Why would buying a contract at a low rate get me banned?Azer Productions wrote:It is someone trying to get you banned most likely.
Don't accept contracts at a huge difference from the market and don't buy from the market at a huge price difference. Example, Power at 0.01 while the rest of the power is 0.10.
That would qualify as an "extreme" advantage.

Lets theorycraft here a bit.
Lets assume I make Cars. LOTS of cars, and I want to drive everyone out of the Car market, and lets say I start putting out cars well under the going market price and become a loss leader in the industry and everyone else closes up there car factories and of course starts making car dealerships. Once I have driven nearly everyone out of the car making business I can set the car price where ever I want.
The obvious down side here is that it is too easy for players to get back into the car making business once I have started raising the prices. So it would require domination of both the materials required to make cars as well as the car making itself. Maintain a hold on the materials and you could control the car market.
Note, this is just theorycraft and I have just started playing and have no real intention of spending enough time in the game to actually carry through with one of these poorly conceived plans...
I was just curious since there seem to be some very basic rules against selling items very cheaply. While I can understand these rules are in place to keep unfair collaboration from occuring, was wondering if there were deeper reasons behind them.

Well there's cheap and then there's cheap. Also I think you severely overestimate the ability of many players to read a market and do the logical thing.
Unfortunately from a design standpoint it's kind of a paradox. If you have a better solution I'd be thrilled to hear it. But here are the principles that Kapilands is based on (and they are good ones):
1. Players need starting cash and supplies so they have something to do at the beginning.
2. Players should easily be able to reset if they did something wrong.
3. Players should be able to set their own prices and make direct sales via contract.
Put those 3 together and anyone with 2 brain cells thinks they figured out some big secret way to get ahead. So you need a rule that says "no trades with extreme advantage" to stop people from doing something we would all agree is cheating.
So again, if you have a better solution I'd love to hear it. Seriously. This is a puzzle I've wracked my brain on for a while.

0,5 cents means 0.5 cents in Europe.
not sure which is better, both probably arbitrary but I'm use to the decimal point instead of a comma.
Plus I think the express the same number is a different context.
one hundred and fifty two dollars and sixty seven cents.
In America we mean the 162 is a whole number, then a "." to express the decimal places for cents, meaning that they are separate things.
The period being a definitive symbol, the importance is mainly placed on the $162, where it should be in most people's opinion. That $162 is far more important than 0.67 cents.
In Europe while the same number is being expressed since they are using the comma, they are really saying, I have $162 and 0,67 cents.
While yes the $162 is listed first making it's importance the cents value is more in addition to instead of separating it, being more inclusive to the much maligned and segregated cents value.
But the sentiment between the two different ways of expressing the same value is different. As in American, you still are a cent and as soon and you find 33 more of you then you can be a dollar too and join the dollar party, while Europe seems to invite Cents just in case it might be good for something, which is rarely ever is.
If spoken you might expect an American to say, "I have one hundred and sixty two dollars", then his voice would murmur out and he'd slightly mumble, "and sixty seven cents". providing of course he even bothers to mention the poor cents at all. More likely, if asked how much money he has he would say that he has $162 and completely disregard the cents value as not worth even bringing up.
In Europe, you'd assume by the use of the comma, if asked how much money one has, they'd likely reply "one hundred and sixty two dollars", to answer the persons question, then their voice would delightfully pick up and kindly make note of the "sixty seven cents", so it is not to feel left out.
Of course if you really didn't want to discriminate against the cents, then you should mention it first. If asked how much money you have you could say, "I have sixty seven cents!!!!!", "Oh and $162 too".
Yes it is hard to be a cent in this world today, people throw you in the ash tray of their car and forget that you are even there. spending your entire existence under the couch cushion or in a old coffee jar. being the forgotten currency that nobody seems to care for anymore.
But take heart cents lovers, with todays geo-politcal environment politicians are working tirelessly to restructure the economy to insure you appreciate ever last penny that you manage to make.
so remember, cents are money too.
