Single business - bad idea?
I currently have a (all) toy production and a candy/candybar production in Realm1. Neither is very big but I make the most money with (all) toys. I am also growing tired of dealing with the candy/candybar business.
Is it a bad idea to get rid of the candy/candybar production and only focus on (all) toys?

That is not a very smart way to run a business. You are losing a lot of money by not maximizing your building slots worth.Dios wrote:I prefer variation, so I'm producing jewellery, leather jackets, food and selfsustaining expansion. Right now I'm looking for complete selfsustained economy, so I produce everything myself and buy in small quantities, selling mostly in stores except for some long term contracts.
It is better to focus on one thing. However, it can get boring from time to time.
Producing evrything by yourself will make you lose money.Azer Productions wrote:That is not a very smart way to run a business. however it does not effect retail (because you buy the items, and don't need to have research by yourself) thats why I have some textile stores, jewelers and E stores that make a lower profit compered to the furniture stores and gas stations but are fun.
I know most people want to be self-sustained but self sustaining in complex lines isn't that good. I hope you don't make your own power.
1 company, 1 business, usually is very effective but having a side product (like azer) keeps you entertained. Yet only 1 business gets really boring. With your candy, do you sell in stores. just using those food factories and plantations (I guess you make your own sugar) for products used in special buildings for score would rake in the money.
personally, I would prefer multi-business line but quite hard in most ways because of limits (and number of research buildings). I knew this so make cabriolets (R2) and I need to make a lot of stuff myself (there is maybe 2 wholesale rubber suppliers) and I make good money, have several products and don't feel bad about being in-effective.
Another example pkinc (sorry for using your name pk but you are a perfect example (sorry again if i have confused you with another company)) who has 10 slots of 10, each 10 is a different business, which allows him to be well spread and profitable. It also makes sure is company is equal.
I was nearly always 2 product company but producing 2 especially when smaller and mid-sized makes slow growth. hope this was helpful.

He is actually anup plc, who makes contest products and with such a variety of buildings he nearly always can produce the contest product.kingrewt wrote:Another example pkinc (sorry for using your name pk but you are a perfect example (sorry again if i have confused you with another company)) who has 10 slots of 10, each 10 is a different business, which allows him to be well spread and profitable. He also makes sure he has the right researches for every product in his building.

I forgot to mention that I produce everything in the (all) toys and candy/candybar chains. It's alot of products to deal with.
It's good to know though that focusing on only one thing, or chain as in my case, is not a terrible idea. Guess I could retail some (all) toy chain products such as textiles or plastic.

I see people managed to reply before I hit Post.

I have realized that when others say 1 product they actually mean the finished product. In my (twisted) world 1 product is equivalent to a chain. Yes, I produce everything in those two chains but I have been pondering the removal of wells, powerplants and mines on R1. I make good money with the (all) toys so spending it on expansion material to keep leveling in check feels like a good idea.kingrewt wrote:I know most people want to be self-sustained but self sustaining in complex lines isn't that good. Yes, producing only one product is best. However, there are some products that require you to produce part of the chain.
For example, I cannot find enough wool to buy and produce my own Pullovers. That requires me to produce my own corn and wool just to be able to turn out enough Pullovers. However, I buy as much as possible. (Power, Water, Seeds, and building materials.)

andro, get rid of the powerplants and mines (wells as well if you have) as they are slow exspansion and you can use the NPC unless you us ethe mines for other than stones.
You are right that 1 product usually means 1 finished product. Retailing is good, and sticking to only 1 product doesn't really count there.
Don't retail candy, candy bars and toys. as you can make far more money selling to the likes of cash money brothers.

Well in fact I produce so many different things becuse I don't care much about making huge profits, I play for fun
and my development is steady, even if slow. The biggest income is done by selling my cotton to NYK. and producing leather jackets to sell directly via stores, so I could just go on with that, but I don't care, I like to do little of everything. And anyway, research goes on pretty fast because I've built a research facility for each product I need to grow, I know that the way I play is insane and not worth it, but it's fun to me. Much fun. Even though excel charts are growing madly.

and: its boring, to have only stores or produce one thing. but its impossible, to handle masses of different products (research/baseproducts..)
i play since the server 1 starts in 2007, and meanwhile i changed my company several times, to keep the fun back
