Shops

Post by Guest » 04.08.2009, 20:47

Been playing the game a short while now and getting to grips with most things, but still bit confused on shops and thought i'd post here as an easier alternative to experimenting for the answer.

The variables a user can control are:
SHOP SIZE - this obviously affects how much you can sell in one go, but does it affect the rate things are sold. So would a bigger shop sell things faster than a smaller shop if advertsing, quality and price are the same?
ADVERTISING - this affects how quickly things are sold from your shop, although what happens if I have some advertising at Q0 then buy some with Q4? And if I have 40k of Q0 advertising in one shop can I replace it with a higher Q?
PRODUCT QUALITY - direct link with price where basic supply/demand economics kick in to determine how quickly things will be sold. Does other supply in that area affect things though - eg will I sell more being the only shop selling product A in that area, and sell less if there are lots of other shops selling product A in the same area?
PRICE - direct link to quality point above

Size: larger allows you to put more items in the store, but when you sell the maximum amount in a store the sale times will be the same no matter what size.

Ads: can only be entered once, also you obviously don't understand the idea of Q in ads.
Q0 = 1p
Q1 = 2p
Q10 = 11p
Q20 = 21p
You only need to enter 40K points, not 40K ads to get max result.
Once you reach 40K points, no matter how you reach them, the store is fully advertised.

Quality: Higher Q allows you to sell faster and/or more expensive.
Q affects sales in a certain ratio.
Being the only one selling a Q doesn't matter, only being the only one selling a product allows you to change sale price a bit over a long period of time.

Yes, it will sell faster then a smaller shop if same amount.
ADVERTISING - this affects how quickly things are sold from your shop, although what happens if I have some advertising at Q0 then buy some with Q4? And if I have 40k of Q0 advertising in one shop can I replace it with a higher Q?
Advertisements work as follows: 1 shop can hold 40000 advertisement points.

1 advertisement Q0 is 1 point.
1 advertisement Q1 is 2 points.
1 advertisement Q2 is 3 points, etc.

A full advertised shop (40000 points) cuts salestime in half.

PRODUCT QUALITY - direct link with price where basic supply/demand economics kick in to determine how quickly things will be sold. Does other supply in that area affect things though - eg will I sell more being the only shop selling product A in that area, and sell less if there are lots of other shops selling product A in the same area?
It depends how many "people" live in the area, how much demand and supply is for a product and the price you set in your shop.
So if you would be the only shop there, demand is high and the area is well populated AND you got a good price in your shop you will make more money, in less time.
Obviously more shops is more supply.
(Please correct me anyone if I am explaining this in a stupid way).
PRICE - direct link to quality point above
The higher quality the higher you can set your price and sell faster.
I am putting it very short now, so if you want more extended info, you might want to use the search button, there is a lot written about the questions you ask.
:D

Shop size:
the larger it gets, the faster your items will sell at the same price and quality.

Example, 2 fully advertised stores at different shop sizes:
1: a 50m

thanks all, seems I got a bit ripped off buying Q0 advertising at not that much of a price less than Q4 was available
I also know to invest a bit more expanding my shop flogging leather gloves now as that will make some tidy cash shifting things a lot quicker

Think you made a little oopsy there..

edit: ok, I see you corrected the oopsy. :lol:

We all must be very bored in real life at the moment. LOL.

Yeah, Q4 should be at least 5 times as expensive as it gives 5 times more advertising points compared to Q0.

often, the higher advertisements (like Q10 and above) seem really expensive, but when you devide it (devide Q13 by 14, to see how much each point really costs.)
you'll see that it's often cheaper to buy high quality advertisements rather than low quality.

Obviously more shops is more supply.
So expanding your current shops is a better way to increase sales than building another shop in an area where you already have one? Or does one more shop not impact supply enough to lower the sales significantly?

That is just in the beginning, later in the game when you start making money you don't even notice it anymore.

@ Kestrel: Just wait until our "math wizzards" arrive, they can explain that stuff much better and in good English.
I am just a foreigner. :shock:

@Ronintje: You are terrible. :twisted:
