What goods are profitable for retailing.

Here is enough space for all players to ask questions about the game.

I didn't think that was the case but I wanted to be sure because it now raises anoother question.

Anybody with stores will know that selling time can and does fluctuate by large amounts. As an example in my 1000m jewelry store one day I can sell 900 for optimum price. The next day it has been 1400

With this in mind and aimed again at Greed (I'm not having a go :) )

would it not be better to load your store daily until you get a good selling time and then load your shop to the max that day ?

If you have some idea of the fluctuations when you say 48 hrs is the best
then please ignore the questions as that makes sense.

I know i am not Greed but i just can't help but to speak.

That i think is actually what most jewelers do. They stockpile on jewelry and then when the price gets just right they sell it all.

so if I understand that correctly, the time in which a full store can sell out at a set price can change every day?

I suppose that's what the 'supply / demand' thing is for, then. :P

That's it ;)

Yes it depends on the the avg. price. You can get an idea if it will take longer or go faster by taking a look at the Price and Quality menu under the Stats tab.

Alright :)

Thanks again.

That is right indeed, it is the same with the supply /demand stats.
for a while diamond rings supply was way more then demand, which resulted in a "no sale 'message from my stores.

So every day I looked at the stats, and as soon as demand was higher then supply, and the price was right I quickly filled my stores with diamond rings and didn't touch them, and even though the next day stats were saying supply was more then demand again, it did not effect my sales, as long as I just left it alone.
Same goes for price stats.
They update every night around 01.00 o'clock forum time.

podge wrote:I use Knoll's (spelling) formula for finding optimum selling price. How does time affect this ?

If it's simply a question of getting the most from your store. Then once the optimum price is found would it not be best to max your store ?
Please ask in a more definite way  i could go on guessing what you wanted to ask but that wouldnt help anyone.

I don't think it's clever to make fun of peoples lack of comunication skills.

The question was perfectly understandable if somewhat lacking in eloquence.

If you sell at optimum price.

Why is 48 hours better than say 24 or 96 ?

Raw materials are best at first, with wood, stones, water and oil being about equally profitable. Power has been down for a while.

With some research, gas and wardrobes are better and maybe some other finished goods.

When your average building size gets to 8000m, shops are better, especially gas stations and furniture stores. Jewelers are more profitable, but hard to manage and have ultimate limits of total NPC demand. Some other shops may be okay. They should be in Germany, unless you want to be eccentric and even then, they should be in red.

Huh??

What question are you answering Straw Man?
Are you sure you got the right thread?

Haha, that is a great answer to a question that... wasn't asked at any point. :P

I know that stones/oil/water etc are profitable for production companies.
I wanted to do some small retail on the side of my main production line.
(so, just pure retail without having to produce anything: Buying off the market, then selling in stores. You cannot do that with stones and water :P)

My main production line has been Stones since I started the game, and it'll probably stay that way for a long time.

the 'retail side' of my company is Gas for now. :)

Shops aren't very profitable until all your buildings are big, but it's okay to run a few for practice. I used to price gas to sell a full shelf in either 31 or 48 hours, depending on supply, with profitability not varying much. I sell a shelf of Q14 wardrobes at 4200 in Germany, with selling time 70 to 80 hours. If selling time is high, I reset the shelf on the next day, otherwise I let it run. You might consider never owning jewelers.
