It's the sum of Meters x Cost of expansion for each building (including special buildings)

While buildings in the red area give you a lot more ;)

Furniture stores+Jewlery stores are chosen by bigger players as they give the most FA per m2 ie 8,000 caps per m2

plantation dont give much FA but i like making wood
some players dont play for big FA, they play for fun

As far as i know, the furniture stores give 9375/sqm. And car dealers cost the same amount too.

Yeah, jewelers and car dealers cost 9375 per m, whereas gas stations are 5000. It's a pretty bogus stat. As in real life, income is more important but harder to measure.
