I've seen this before; why is there a pervasive negativity towards steel production? I run a smallish (70-100k units/day) steel business that is *extremely* profitable. I understand the inputs on the open market are overpriced; but to me that just says that those are good businesses to get into as well.

It's easy to tell based on the amount of buyers looking for Steel in the forums and the quickness with which sub 135C steel disappears from the market that there is demand for steel.

This comes from players who buy their iron, coal, and chemicals from the market or via a contract from other players. Most players pay between 128 to 134.90 on average. I am sure there have been lower offers.

If you mine your own iron and coal, the minerals for chemicals, make the chemicals, make your own water and power, and use this all in the steel production, then yes, it can be profitable.

If you go the aforementioned route, buying the main components for steel, making 70k to 100k kg of steel sounds about right. If I did that, I'd be making over 265k steel a day. Today, I went and bought materials to make 2 kg of steel, buying strictly from the market. (Iron, Coal, Chemicals, and Power)

4 Iron Ore Costs = 8 each.
10 Coal Costs = 9.5 each
1 Chemical Costs = 40
400 Power Costs = .22 (current price @ the time of this demo)

Total Cost to produce a kg of Q8 steel?

(16) Iron (47.5) Coal (20) Chemical (44) Power = 127.5 each kg

Even if you sold it at 200 each, that's 72.5 in profit for each kg sold.

Obviously, this price will fluctuate with the market and players offering lower deals, but I believe this is the bottom reason why steel is frowned upon as one of your main end products to sell to the public.

The example I did was based on Realm 2's market.

I'm pretty sure, that if you produce realy-realy high quality steel, and there is a high demand for high Q steel you'll have a nice-high profit :)

That is right, but only few people make high quality steel.
