Expanding
I am not sure what the norm is, but I am up to 22 buildings now, and I've expanded one of my factories up to E:8 @80m2 for quicker production of things like steel, while I keep another smaller factory for chemicals and gas, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on expanding? Is this a good approach to take, to have 2 facilities, one with high capacity and one relatively undeveloped, or is it best to expand evenly?
Also, is there a limit on size the building can be expanded or number of employees?

i think the max size is something like 36,000 m2 ... but i could be wrong ...
and yes, IMHO it is better to expand just 1 building and leave the others like it to rest ... because i feel later in the game, ill sell off the ones im not using ... but i think the thing u have to decide is if ur going to continue to produce multiple things within ur factories ... i mean, for steel, maybe keep a 20m2 factory for chemical production, so u dont have to stop production of steel to make things for ur next batch ...
once i got another factory up and a few mines, i stopped production of oil and gas, and turned to water and steel ... it just seemed like a natural progression to me ...
just my humble opinion tho

Wether to expand or build new buildings is up to you, also building new is a little cheaper than expanding (because the high material consumption in expanding), but more buildings also means more clicking =).
Also because the increase in production is not linear building new factories becomes better the bigger your current buildings are.
Of course, once you filled all your building slots, expanding is the only way to increase production.
All buildings that produce the same good, should be kept at the same size, this makes managing them easier (especially when you later use the adminstrative buildings).
As for the other goods, i think they should at least met your current need, maybe produce a little surplus.
So for steel, first expand your steel mills, then your chemical-factories to meet the higher demand for chemicals etc..
Of course you could also start at the bottom, its all up to you.

I think if you are convinced (or nearly convinced) that you have the right strategy and build your buildings accordingly then you should expand your buildings evenly.
One of the advantages is, that just a little later on, you will not expand 10 or 20 m2 at once, but e.g. 100 or 200. During this you are not able to produce in that building. Another building of nearly the same size can keep the production running without loosing money or raw material in further buildings.
