I've been playing for about 2 weeks now, and I made several buildings and produce pretty well now every day.
I just read so many threads here on the forum, but I still can't figure out when and how far i should try to level up, because it has good and bad things that come along with it. Is there any place I can find information on that? What do I gain and what do I lose for leveling up?

To find out what you gain: (in game) under "Help" click "Level".
As to how much production you lose see Kapitools. Just use different "levels" to see how production goes down.
My opinion is that you should try and stick with whatever level you are at for as long as possible. That is, until your Fixed Assests level you.
Figure out what business you want to go into and build up all 60 slots(100 if you are Premium). Then just keep upgrading.
