GFX on Chrome

Post by Guest » 24.07.2011, 22:38

Are the GFX-packages compitable with Google Chrome?

Is there a plug-ing that can be downloaded, or am I stuck with IE in order for GFXs to work?

Thanks!

Hi Rash,

as far as I know, it should work, though I am afraid, I don't have a guide for you.

I'll go asking one of our Kapilands-experts, and hope he can help me there - I'll be back with news!

Best regards,

Hi Rash,

sorry, it seems I was a bit hasty when telling you should be able to use the GFX-Pack on Chrome as well. So far all I have been able to come up with are the regular explanations on how to use it on Firefox and Internet Explorer, and from what I could find on our other game-forums, the GFX Pack seems to indeed only work with IE & FF.

So if you don't want to keep using IE, it seems the best thing would be to use Firefox. It's a little tricky to install it there, but it does work.

Here is a copy of instructions posted on Molehil Empire - the principle is the same on Kapilands, though:

Topic Version: 1.0.1 - Added 30-03-09 - Updated: 31-03-09 / 17:10 GMT

The following was submitted as an updated readme.txt file for the graphics pack download, however is still pending word on if, and when it will be implemented.

Code: Select all

----------------------------------------------------------
Instructions for Internet Explorer version 6 and greater

a) Extract the GFX-pack to a directory of your choice.
   Please make sure that the chosen path doesn't contains any spaces.
   The Path "C:\wi_gfx" would be correct, "C:\my molehill empire pics" would be wrong.

b) Log into molehill empire and go to your profile.
   Enter the path to your GFX-pack at the input box and put a "file:///" before the path.
   Example: "file:///C:/wi_gfx/"
   Please make sure to use slashes / instead of backslashes \ here.

c) Allow molehill empire to access the files on your computer by adding the server to your trusted sites list.
    To do this boot up Internet Explorer and navigate to the Tools Menu.
    From there click Internet Options, then Trusted Sites, open the Sites list.
    Add s#.molehillempire.com to this list, replacing # with the server you wish to use the Graphics Pack on.
    For example: s2.molehillempire.com for Server Two.

    The same applies for other languages of Molehill Empire.
    For the French server for example simply use:- s#.molehillempire.fr

   {*} Please be sure to DISABLE the "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone" checkbox when adding the specific server URL to the trusted sites list.

All completed? Great! - Please restart your browser and log in to Molehill Empire again.
When logging in be sure to tick the "GFX Active?" option at the main page.

----------------------------------------------------------
Instructions for Firefox Version 1.5 and greater

a) Extract the GFX-pack to a directory of your choice.

   Please make sure to use slashes / instead of backslashes \ here.

c) Change to the Profiles-folder of Firefox. It's located in different locations depending on your operating system.
   For Windows: %APPDATA%/Firefox/Profiles/
   For Linux: /home/username/.mozilla/firefox/12345678.default/
   For OS-X: /Username/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/

   Inside you'll see another folder with the name format <randomnumber>.default - open this folder.
   You'll find more detailed information on locating the profiles-folder at:
   http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder

d) {*} BEFORE PROCEEDING please close your FireFox Browser.
The reasons behind this is FireFox automatically writes data into the user.js file when closing. This can delete anything you add to the user.js file thus meaning the new changes will not take effect.

If there's already a file named "user.js" please open it with a text editor (NOT word for windows, but with notepad!).
   If there file isn't already there then please create a new text file.
   Write the following lines into the file:

   For molehillempire.com:

   user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "molehillgfx");
   user_pref("capability.policy.molehillgfx.sites", "http://s1.molehillempire.com");
   user_pref("capability.policy.molehillgfx.checkloaduri.enabled", "allAccess");

   For molehillempire.nl:

   user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "molehillgfx");
   user_pref("capability.policy.molehillgfx.sites", "http://s1.molehillempire.nl");
   user_pref("capability.policy.molehillgfx.checkloaduri.enabled", "allAccess");

   Please be aware that these two examples are for Server 1 of Molehill Empire.
   If you would like to use them for Server 2 then just change the URL accordingly.

   If you want to use the Graphics Pack on two or more servers then simply put a space between the servers.

   Example for molehillempire.com

   user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "molehillgfx");
   user_pref("capability.policy.molehillgfx.sites", "http://s1.molehillempire.com http://s2.molehillempire.com");
   user_pref("capability.policy.molehillgfx.checkloaduri.enabled", "allAccess");

e) Save the file as "user.js" and start Firefox again.
   You should now be able to use the GFX-pack.

   Just be sure to enable the "GFX Active?" option at the Login Screen when logging in to ensure your loading the images using the graphics pack.

----------------------------------------------------------
Opera Browser

Unfortunately Opera refuses to give access to local files completely, so there's no possibility to use the GFX-pack with Opera at this time.

----------------------------------------------------------
Google Chrome

No instructions have been written yet for getting the Graphics Pack to work on Google's new browser.

If you have managed to get the graphics pack to work with this new browser please contact one of the forum administrators with full instructions and we will arrange for this file to be updated accordingly.

----------------------------------------------------------
If problems arise

If you have any problems with the graphics pack then please just reply to this topic stating what the problem is, and if you've taken any steps yourself to try to fix the error.

One of our experienced forum users may be able to assist you in getting it to work then, but please be sure to state which browser and operating system your using as this means instructions can be given accordingly without having to guess.
Questions & Answers

Q. I've tried installing the graphics pack, but when logging in none of the images load! How can I disable the pack again when I can't find my profile?
A. At the main page (http://www.molehillempire.com) please disable the "GFX Active?" tick-box before logging in.
This should bypass the graphics pack settings allowing you to fix any changes.

Hmmm... seems that there is a bit of dillema on this topis.

There are a couple of things that should be adressed regarding this issue and those are:

- if this is the code:

user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "molehillgfx");
user_pref("capability.policy.molehillgfx.sites", "http://s1.molehillempire.com");
user_pref("capability.policy.molehillgfx.checkloaduri.enabled", "allAccess");

what shoud stand instead of "molehillgfx" and what should stand for the site? On the second issue, my guess is "http://www.w2.kapilands.com" for Realm 2.

Acutally, tried few combinations but it doesn

Don't know how to make it operate on local host, but just tested, and confirmed that it will work through a remote server.
