kapiland-gfx package problem

Post by Guest » 25.02.2011, 16:35

okay, i'm pretty sure i've done what it told me, word for word, but i still can't get this to work!
I downloaded the file, i've extracted the folder to C:/Images
i then put C:\Images\kapiland-gfx\ into the game but i just get a pictureless game!!!!
i've tried reversing all the slashes to C:/Images/kapiland-gfx/
i've tried pointing it directly to the final folder:
C:/Images/kapiland-gfx/kapiland-gfx/kapiland-gfx/
i then tried reversing all the shalshes in that too:
C:\Images\kapilands-gfx\kapiland-gfx\kapiland-gfx\
but none of it works!!! what am i doing wrong! please help!

This link may help About GFX package.

I don't know if that thread goes over FireFox but if you use FireFox, you need to either create or edit the 'User.js" file.

Probably located in this directory: (I use WinXP so other Windows OS may be a bit different)

Local Disk->Documents and Settings->[Your User Name]->Application Data->Mozilla->Firefox->Profiles->[folder name here looks like gibberish]->user.js

Note: This is a text file but you need to make sure it saves as user.js NOT user.txt.js (which is how I've see some notepad applications do it)

And you may have to use the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" option in order to see into the proper folders

In that file you should have something that look like this:

Code: Select all

user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "localfilelinks");
user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.sites", "http://www.w2.kapilands.com http://www.kapi-regnum.com" );
user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.checkloaduri.enabled", "allAccess");
The "....localfilelinks.sites" can contain any number of websites but 'http:www.w2.kapilands.com' has to be in there if you are playing on Realm 2. (I don't know what the Realm 1 URL is exactly)

The GFX packages entry on your profile page should look something like this:

file: ///c:/games/online/kapilands/kapiland-gfx/

[Don't use spaces, I did on purpose to break that and make it not look like an active link]

Hope this helps.

i had already read that article! nether the less I've made a small break through! :)
i changed the file location to:
///C:/Images/kapiland-gfx/kapiland-gfx/
and now i get the little jgp broken image instead of just plain white
when i cope the image URL to a word pad instead of 'C:/...' it shows 'c/...'
which of course doesn't work :/
then i tried the same process in windows internet explorer but that gave the the same results, a white box with a red x in the corner

Only thing I can think of then is to maybe manually put 'file:' in front of the '///'

In my profile it has the whole thing in there starting with 'file:' and ending with a '/'

For reference I use Firefox 3.6.13. So if the browsers aren't the same, I may giving you advice that doesn't work :shock:

[Add-on]
By the way, I had a hell of time getting it to work with Firefox (if that is the browser you are using) because of this line in the User.js file:

Code: Select all

user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.sites", "http://www.w2.kapilands.com http://www.kapi-regnum.com" );
I have other games that have graphics packs and I had inadvertently added that line twice. Once for Kapilands/Kapi-Regnum and the one for the other games. Since the other game's URLs came on a line after the Kaplands ones, it overrode that first line. I found out all the site URLs have to be included in the same entry.

Ah, I see.

Sorry about that. I was giving you advice for FF. I know as much about Google Chrome as I do about particle physics....which is to say, nothing at all :?

Does Google have a help page/forum for Chrome?

Maybe this question has come up in relation to something else. Perhaps you can get some ideas there.

Hi Ursa Logistics,

apparently the GFX-pack doesn't seem to work with Google Chrome. I am sorry I cannot give you any better news than that, but it seems the browser is unable to handle it. So if you'd like to use it, I am afraid you will have to use another browser. :? Sorry I don't have any better news for you!

Best regards,

Just let me draw your attention to the possibility of using the "direct links".
:arrow: GFX-direct links

This could be a way for you to change the design easily. :)

Heh, those are pretty neat.

I'm running FF so I don't have any problem with the standards gfx-pack but still, those are pretty neat.
