I build a product line of mine and selling stuffs at stores ...

Welcome.

Progress is progress, as long as you're not going down you're headed in the right direction. ;-)

A few things to bear in mind:

1. Goods in your warehouse are not counted in your company value. So if you store up a bit for sale or use later then you are building value that doesn't show. (My net worth actually went down one day because of this.)

2. Not all businesses, or all products, are equal. If you look around you'll see a few threads suggesting how to make "big money." This is a mixed blessing - they are very profitable right now but entering a busy industry may cause problems later from all that competition.

3. Certain products don't exist higher than q0 - power, water, and stone. Additionally Wood and Steel (made from Coal, Iron, and Minerals/Chemicals) are always useful for building at q0. That makes these fine choices without any research.

4. NPCs like quality. If you're a retailer, whatever product you're in, getting the q up will boost your profits.

Finally a reply :o

Thx for your advice Knolls :P I'll bear them in mind =) ... I'm now trying to get into electronics industry, hope I won't burn my fingers for this.

Btw, when should I start my research ? is it better to start more early ?

Research can get pretty expensive, pretty quickly, especially for a small company. It's definitely important, but I personally would wait until you at least lay your foundation and are consistently generating surplus cash each day.

It looks like your company value is increasing less then 100,000 a day. The first few research points are pretty inexpensive, but once you get to 6, it's suddenly 10,000 for a single research point, and at 13 it is over 100,000. With Power & Water being components of everything and the quality is fixed at 0, you often need to get to at least 6 to really have an end product with a quality of 2.

I would recommend waiting a little longer, until you are generating a little more cash each day. 200,000/day should be a good amount for you to both fund your expansion, as well as be able to pay for research.

Re: Research.

Firstly, look at the Stats for the product you're selling in the country where your store is. For discussion I'm going to assume you're selling Monitors in Germany.

The average quality there is 0.72. That's decently low - to me that says it's not urgent to upgrade right now, but when you can that will make your products above average. (If the product was something like 2.5-3 or higher I'd start feeling more pressure as I'm stuck behind.)

It's hard to say ahead of time exactly how much benefit you gain by upgrading, but I'll go out on a limb and say moving from below average to above average is the biggest change.

Secondly, consider how many points you need to improve the final product and where to get them. For monitors there are 5 components: Plastic, E-Com, Glass, Power, and the monitor research itself. So you need a total of 5 points in the input for a point in the final monitor. That could be:

q2 plastic, q1 E-Com, and q2 Power
or
q5 monitors.

It's probably easiest to just research the product itself, at least at early levels. But if you have a source of higher q components, that's worth considering also.

Thirdly, before you build a research center, check out the Research Trade forum. Anyone Manager level or higher can sell their research, and anyone any level can buy it. You might find someone selling what you need, And paying them for the research plus a little profit may be cheaper and faster for you than building a center and researching it yourself.

Lastly, just for a very very rough rule of thumb, assume that jumping up in quality will let you move the retail price up 10% and still sell in the same amount of time. And aside from the research, your costs won't go up. So figure out how much more profit that would mean for you and compare that to the research's price. Just FYI, you will pay:
150,000 for the building (assuming red) + materials
50 to reach q1
400 to reach q2
1350 to reach q3
3200 to reach q4
6250 to reach q5

aww.. it looks like I"ll have to run for one or two weeks more before expand to research

Thx racingtigger for suggesting a turning point for starting to research.

And really, many many thx to Knolls for your comprehensive illustration on the maths , I like your answer very much :P very pratical =)

mine more logic based than math ... but, if u can get the quality up, u can sell the same amount of goods, in the same amount of time, for more money. Now, depending on what it is you sell, and how many you sell, you can make this up easily. For instance, if you sell computers at 1500, and you sell 20 in 24 hours ... the price of level 6 research is 28,400. (level 6 = Q1 computers) if you then sell Q1 computers at 1600, in the same amount of time, that is a profit of 100 per computer, 2000 caps in 24 hours. It would take 12 days (and an hour or two) to pay off level 6 research, and then you could continue on a profit.
however, there is a small cost increase in production (heres hoping u built that beaut. e-factory in a green area lol), so it would prolly be more like 13 days to pay it off fully and start turning a profit.
I reccommend researching. (however, if u dont have the building yet, thats kinda tough to get the capital started for that lol)

Anyway... I bet I should build my research centre in Red area right ? 20% faster it says ...
