Forum Post Count

Post by Guest » 24.06.2010, 20:52

Recently I have abstained from participating in the Off Topic section due to the excessive spam and for the first time ever they started going off topic in off topic. Though I had a look and they (the extreme spammers of obscene amounts of useless posts) said that posts in Off Topic no longer add to your post count. Is this true? I personally think if this true that it should be temporary until the wasters leave the forum again.

I hope it's not true, the only thing keeping the rest of the forum (sort of) spam free is use of off topic for posting junk that doesn't really have a place, though some have been trying to start decent topics they just descend into hotlinked pictures and mindless one liners, it does sort of make sense why the one liners seem to be appearing in other places in the forum all of a sudden though, there should either be a post count or no post count in my opinion.

It is true - indeed because of the excessive spamming that has been going on there recently. We are hoping that this might stop the senseless spamming, for the sake of all users who just want to have fun and interesting conversations with their fellow players, and in order to keep this forum in good shape. (and also for the sake of our nerves ;-))

Should this backfire, we will reconsider this, or indeed might stop the counters in the entire forum.

Cheers,

pearlbay

There is a simpler solution ban the wasters. Simple. Would allow proper posters to post again there.

PS: Haven't I become more responsible and actually contributing to the forum now, so shouldn't be put in the same bracket as the spammers.

You need to 'regain our trust' first, you're slowly getting there. ;)

---

Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing the postcount dissapear completely.
People won't be bragging about being the 'top poster' anymore and if you want to be a well-known forum user,
you can become one by making good posts in the 'All about the game' section of the forum. :)
I see some names with loads of posts and I barely even see them in the 'All about the game' section.
it's fake e-fame, and has nothing to do with the quality of the posts.

Having bought into the fake fame, it is absolutely useless. people now think me and sergiu are the best forum members if they look only by post count but if you remove trade and Off Topic sections from post count we would be miserably low

So removal would make the forum more serious and fun topics will only be for fun not just the count rate.

I have a lot to regain and hope to reach it one day.

Not all do that.

I personally don't see the fascination with being a top poster. I believe it should be quality over quantity, as in most other cases.
Btw, the excuse "I am bored" does not give a reason to deliberately nor accidentally increase post rate. ...unless it's a quality post - which they rarely are.

Pearlbay, do whatever you like with the counter. It doesn't hurt me. I never really look at it.

For the moment, we're going to keep an eye on things as they are now, and see if this works, before making any further changes.

Coming from someone with over 3000 posts?

Note that Kingrewt's post starts with the word "recently" ;)
also look at his post where he quotes me, you'll see that he's a "former spammer" if you'd want to call it that :P

Still very hypocritical.

Sorry, guys and girls, but I ask you not to discuss others' "mentality" or "spamming attitude". This is how we always handled that and how we should deal with that in here. :)

So we'll see how the spamming will develope during the next days/weeks and then see if we need to take any further actions. :)
Thanks for your cooperation and especially for your responses!
