Do you lose research after you sell it?

As in, if I sold Wood q40 to you, I would have Wood q0 after selling it?

yes if you sell the research you start again at zero

and if you were buying that research (Q40 wood) and had Q23 already, you lose your Q23 and just have the Q40

you are better off to sell your Q23 and then buy Q40

Ofcourse you can also borrow eachothers research.

Put your own research on the market for a high price so you will be sure nobody will want to buy it.
Then buy somebodies research by contract, set your production for that quality, send the research back to the person you bought it from for the same price, (make sure the price is "normal" so you don't get in trouble for pricing to low) and then buy back your own research from the market.
