[GUIDE] Best area to build a power plant
Many newbies today have probleem: Where to build the power plant?
In the green area? Or the red area?
In the following guide, I will help you make your choice easier.
Let's look at the profits and costs of building a power plant in both green and red areas.
If you want to produce some amount of power in some time and sell your power for 0.05 caps per power. Then:
If your power plant is in the green area, you will have:
100% production
0.01 caps cost per power
So,
Power produced: 100x power
Cost for producing 100x power: 100x power * 0.01 caps = x caps
Sale: 100x power * 0.05 caps = 5x caps
Profit: 5x - x = 4x caps
When you build in the green area and if you sell your power at 0.05, you will have 400% profit.
BUT, if you build you power plant in the red area, you will have:
120% production
0.03 caps cost per power
So,
Power produced: 120x power
Cost for producing 120x power: 120x power * 0.03 caps = 3.6x caps
Sale: 120x power * 0.05 caps = 6x caps
Profit: 6x - 3.6x = 2.4x caps
When you build a power plant in the red area, you have only 240% profit and you spend more on production than you get as profit.
Building the power plant in the green area is the right choice as long as you sell below 0.13 caps per power. Using the same calculations, you will find that selling at an amount higher than 0.13, the red area gives more profit than the green area. But currently the power prices are low and are showing no signs of growing high.
For all power producers, it is currently more safe and profitable to build your power plants in the green area.
I hope this thread helped.

I think it is a nice work, the only mistake here is the productivity of power in red should be 125%.
So, I calculat it with my way and get the critical price is 0.08, which means it is better to build power plants in green if the price of power is less than 0.08.
Notice: the price here is what you really gain, if you consider the price on the market, the critical price should be 0.0889.

I personaly feel it's down to how the player wants to play there company. and go into some of the issues here.

You all may be right for that early stage of your companies.
Later, when you have reached the maximum number of buildings, all building had grown to several hundreds of squaremeters and your production needs more power (and this will happen), you will be very happy of a 25% higher production rate.
Remember my words in six months.

I agree with GregorPB, and if your using green, you have to build another/expand more often than in red. The thread I linked above goes into the true cost of expanding.
I may be wrong on this but selling the building to the NPC only gets your cash back, but not your wood steel and stones.
Is there any chance of getting a Poll added, I know these boards can support polls, but can't find a board that will let me create one. (it may be set to only Mod's can create polls)
The question being.

- Which area is the best place to build a Power Plant? Red or Green?
- Red.
Green.
Green (but eventually you will have to sell and build in red).
Depends on what you want to achieve in the game.
I don't know/care.
Very informative discussion
Thanks to all.
My point of view is currently the next:
for newbies (like me) the best choice is to build in green, but not to spend much cash for expanding. And when the company produces a lot of products - move to the red and sell the green Power Plant. Maybe you will loose some money, but you will grow faster at the beginning.

I agree with Gregor, in the early stages, there is not much difference between the green and red power plant. It really just depends on your personal prefs... more profit, or faster production... either way, it comes out about the same in the early stages.
It is a whole lot cheaper to build PP's in green, and for the newbie player, this is clearly the best alternative. I would not advise selling your PP to the NPC, though... wait until you reach level manager and sell them to another player.
