How Should I Sell My Product?

Post by Guest » 01.05.2008, 08:26

Would it be better for me to sell my power by contract, as I currently am, or should I put it all on the market? Or does it even matter? Obviously I will make more by contract due to the fact that I don't have to pay sales commission as I would if I sold on the market. If I sold on the market, as opposed to by contract, I would have a lot more freedom to produce as much power as I want or expand my buildings as often as I want without having to worry about fulfilling contract agreements. Selling on the market would be a bit more expensive but it would provide that freedom that I can't get doing contracts. What do you think?

Yeah but even if I did sell on the market I would keep prices reletively low. The more expensive power is, the more expensive everything else is. So raising prices doesn't help me out much.

I myself only sell by contract. My prices would be considered a bit higher than most power-suppliers, but they are unchanged at all times, providing stability to a customer. If I sold this at the market, due to the quality 0 of power, all the other power producers selling under me would be bought. Therefore, the high power prices can only be sold to contracts. I also make more money because of the minimized fee (yes, you pay a fee when selling to companies with their headquarters not in your area, but it's still less than the market fee) that "little market fee can go a long way when selling big ammounts.

Besides that, I personally like the sense of supplier-customer relationship. There is much more communication between the two, adding another fun aspect of the game. In the market, you wouldn't be able to know who you sell to before selling.

Now, I'm not telling you the market is wrong, it is great for when you cant really get someone to buy your power* and simply want to get rid of it (that's when i create auctions, but they shouldn't be done in small ammounts). The market, also, as you stated gives you complete freedom to do as you wish. Instead, I am tied to the strings of my customers. It's all up to you, and here's what I think you should do, worked for me.

1)sell to the market to make money and a good budget for expansion
2)expand your buildings (you can check the production output HERE)
2a)Repeat steps 1-2 until you are satisfied with your production facility sizes (for the time being)
3)optional step: start selling to contracts. remember to never sell something at your full capacity or you won't be able to expand your buildings.

Step 2a is done before step 3 so that you have big enough power plants to produce enough for your customers and expand some of them as well. This way they don't get upset when you have to expand and they get cut off their power. You can still supply to them.

The same thing could be done with most products, specially at q0.
