how do get employees to work for your building?

I'm assuming you want to get more employees in your building?

Open the research, production, or sales page, and click the "ready" link behind the building that you want to work on.

Here's a screenshot of a research building.

See where it says "scientists: 2 - change"? clicking the change link will allow you to hire more employees.
(Note: for production companies it says employees instead of scientists)

you can only get 2 employees at first, because your building is only 20m

Expansion takes times and materials, but remember building mroe buildings is ALWAYS more effiecient. ie 2x20m2 power plants make more than 1 40m2 power plant.

Every 400 employees (4000m2) You get the chance to "optimize" This increases the amount of products made by the building
