Many (but not all) products can be sold in stores to inhabitants (non-player characters). To do this, you have to buy a store to sell certain items. For instance, if you completed the game tutorial, you had a grocery store where you were able to sell your apples.
To see what products you can sell in what stores, go to the game help and look at the product or building listing. Each selling building will tell you what items can be sold in that building. Additionally, each product will tell you what building it has to be produced in and what building, if any, it can be sold in.
