if currently i have q3 wood, if i buy a q12 wood
what will happen?
i have both research
or maintance the highest?

You lose the Q3 research and get Q12 research instead.

It also would work in reverse, if you had 12 and bought 3 for some reason. Or bought 12 and then had the current research to 4 finish up. So be very careful.
