I have over 10 factories and a premium acct. So I bought a factory admin building a few days ago.
My factories are either 20 ms or 100 ms. I can tell all my factories that are the same size (i.e. 100 ms) to produce so much of a product, so say I have 5 factories that are 100 ms, I don't have to go to each building and set production.
I calculate how much 1 X 100 ms factory can produce in a day. Then just tick the tick boxes for all (5) 100 ms factories, set product, quality and quantity, hit execute and those 5 factories I ticked are producing for the next day. I repeat this process for my 20 ms factories.
Admin buildings make setting production, sales as well as expansion easier.
It takes a little bit of time to get used to them. 
Tip:
When you are expanding your buildings, try to make them all the same size. (eg 50ms or 100 ms)
I still need a mine admin building; a power admin building; elec factory admin building; and a elec sales admin building.

Well it all depends on how many buildings you have to set productions on...or shops to fill and collect from.
If you have for example 10 factories, plantations or mines...and you have to go into each building and set the production up one by one, it can take a fair bit of time...
...but with an admin. building you can set the production in all your factories, or whatever buildings or plantations you have at one time.
You need an admin. building for each building type, mine admin. for mines, factory admin for factories...and so on.
I have 20 mines and it would take me a long time to go into each building one at a time and set the production...but with my mine admin. building I can set all my mines to produce (and you can select all or just a few at a time, eg. if you were running coal in 4 and iron in 2 etc.) just enter product your want, set the quality and the quanity required and click one button...and voila! your production setup is done!
So, in answer to your question...admin. buildings are only worth the investment if you have many buildings to set production in. Only you know how long it takes you to setup each building...and only you will know if the 'time saving' si worth it!
There are also admin. buildings which control extensions for buildings...so for example: if you have 10 power stations and you want to extend each one by 50m2 you can just enter the details and click one button to extend all buildings together...and also add staff when they are ready.
