Graphics Pack

Post by Guest » 28.07.2010, 21:35

Urm, Is there an english filenamed graphics package? Since the links are named such as 'Beef2' and the filename is 'Rindfleisch2', I thought there might be an easier way than me renaming almost 563 files manually.

I notice that many of the images are working just fine, with the german language... but many links are english wording, with german worded filenames. :?

I don't know if maybe I've just picked up a half baked package, being a noob and all...

On top of that, I've renamed a few files from the links in the help pages, to find that when I went back to my warehouse, my bananas were just red crosses.
I looked at the link to find that for the warehouse page, the image needs to be called 'banane2'.

My poor bananes!

Never used the graphics package but why do you need to rename them? i would of thought you changed the images but kept the names the same.

Many of the links to the images have been (assumably) renamed into english, but the image names have not.
However, not ALL the links have been converted to full english, hence the help page requiring the image 'bananas2' and the same image for the warehouse is expected to be named 'banane2'.

I can't remember the others off the top of my head, but many other icon images have the same issue.

Basically some addresses refer to the images in german, others in english, some in both languages on different pages.
The only way I could fix it myself would be to copy many of the images, giving them serveral different names.

When I first registered, the newspaper read 'news'... after downloading the graphics package, it says 'zeitung'. :P

Hi bogeyboy corp,

the GFX-pack has been created when the game was first started. The images were named in German at the time, and since they generally don't have any text on it, I suppose no one thought it would be necessary to actually change the file names. You do install the GFX-pack entirely after all, so there really is no need to know the actual names of the files.

The only exception seems to be the newspaper icon, which does indeed say "Zeitung" in the GFX-pack. It is certainly possible to replace that, but, if we now upload a new GFX-pack everyone who is currently using one will have to download the new version. Since this really only affects one image, this will create more problems than just using it as it is.

Question from my side: Do you actually need the GFX-pack? It really is only necessary if you have an extremely slow internet connection. Otherwise you actually don't need it.

Best regards,

pearlbay

Hi PearlBay,

The only problem with the graphics pack that I am finding, is that a lot of the pictures aren't being displayed, especially in the help pages. This is because the majority of the links are referring to english named images, but the images are named in german, as I said.

I took the time to rename a few of the image files into english, and found that they wouldn't display in the warehouse, because the links there refer to german named images.

So now I'm trying, in vain, to make a copy of every image, one named in german, and one named in english, so that they can be displayed in both the warehouse AND the help pages, etc...

As an example, the car engine...
In the help files, this is the URL:
file:///C:////Users////User////Desktop////kapiland-gfx/////pics/Engines2.jpg

In the warehouse, THIS is the URL:
file:///C:////Users////User////Desktop////kapiland-gfx////pics/Motor2.jpg

The graphics package only contains Motor2.jpg
This applies to most images.

The only reason I'm using the graphics package is because I use a 'pay as you go' dongle, and it's surprising how much I save using the graphics package. You see, the area I live in is still trying to convert caves into double glazed homes, and doesn't provide broadband.
And trying to get a contract with my credit rating, is like trying to milk a cat. ;)

I don't know how many people use the graphics package, and it certainly isn't the sort of thing that I'm going to throw tantrums over... But if it does get a tweak, either all the links need to be edited, which means renaming all the images provided on the server, or the graphics pack needs a rename mission.
