I find the market is very good, but may I make a suggestion?
It would be more realistic if it was built like Level II. I've never traded on commodities or futures markets, but Kapilands market is one sided. Every order on the board is an LIMIT ASK order. I would like to say that they get filled with MARKET BUY orders, but that would not be true. I can skip over the cheapest price and pay more. If I did that, it would not be a "market" order.
To start, I recommend doing it with the items that have quality zero as the only quality you can buy. Then expand your BID/ASK board to items that offer multiple levels of quality.
Just like a player currently places LIMIT ASK orders with inventory from the warehouse, the player should be able to post LIMIT BUY orders with cash from their account. These orders should be filled in order by price first and chronological order second.
I see some markets require an artificial supply at a fixed price. This appears to be built into the game or else people would quit playing.
If you had BID/ASK markets instead of artificially supported ASK markets, then there would be no need for these market controls. A big player could lose his shirt if he bought everything up and a little guy could make a mint selling it to him as he tries to corner the market.
Once this system is set up, then we can possibly start writing puts and calls...WOW! That is more what a REAL contract is like.
Maybe we could even take our companies public!
The website says this game is award-winning and I believe it, but having markets modeled after those in the real world would make this game a phenomenon.

This could start off very simply. Look at the water market. It doesn't matter who buys the water and it doesn't matter who makes the water. All water is always Quality 0.
So why does this page have the sort by quality functionality?
Nobody ever would have a good reason to pay more than the first cheapest price available, so why is every order available for purchase? Only the first order should be active for purchase and the rest should wait in line behind it.
I think these observations show the game to be designed from a programmer's point of view and comfort level rather than a true simulation of the market. Perhaps one of the players here has a series 7 license and could help with the next design.

This could put an end to the cheaters who create/reset dummy accounts to buy quality zero goods from the main character at super high prices.Palmhara wrote:Nobody ever would have a good reason to pay more than the first cheapest price available, so why is every order available for purchase? I've been watching the same player sell quality zero steel at 1,500.00 for a week now when NPC sells the same stuff at 135.00! Why would I pay for a premium membership when I see that nobody ever deletes his account?
If you want players to stop this easy cheat, then only let us buy the cheapest order on the market. It would take less time to fix this market than it would take to chase down all the cheat accounts. Make extra market boards for different qualities if you have to.
If you don't want to do it that way, then we don't really need to see the name of the seller, just the price and quantity available. The first thing a cheater looks for is his company name, but if that was gone, he might actually buy goods from his competitor by mistake.
