Away

Tycoon mentioned -and is, in my opinion, very right about it- that an "I'm online / I'm not online" toggle feature wouldn't be implemented, among other things, because you'd quickly have lots of people trading only with online people, or putting conditions on their trades and contracts, based on the user status shown by such feature. They could also turn out to be impatient (some of them, impolitely impatient) with other users shown online -or not shown away for x days- not accepting their contracts, or do some data mining with the feature ranging from having an edge in contests, all the way to being for invasive into your private life.
An "I'm away for x days" feature, while technically different, would however bring very similar incoveniences to the game. The detrimental effects, and thus reasons Tycoon mentioned an "online / offline" feature would not be implemented, appear to overlap with the effects of the feature you suggest. I found her original post very informative when I read it, and you can have a look at it here:

On a side note, I'm personally against an ingame feature showing online/offline status, or away status. However, I'm also glad to see that people who really want to display such infos, can do so via the VIP showcase. The key idea is that there is no "easy click" feature aside the showcase allowing it, so there is also no one in the player community taking it for granted, and expecting from you that if you are online (or away), you will use the feature to state so, since it's "just one easy click", "polite towards other players", [insert tons of possible reasons to make people not using the feature, feel bad], etc

exacly The point here, is not to show online or offline to the point just its much easier then sending igm to everyone telling ul be away for x days. It be not a system u use daily its a system to say im gone dont expect contracts to be signed or igm to be answered even tho i did not tell u, contest: WHO CARES. If the guy sends more stuf in send moer then hm in, if he does not then dont send more in very very simple contest. Dont be giving me people will put conditions on trading and such, again past the point u use it for the point of only on Long spans of not being able to log on, I read a post somebody was going away 30 days, perfect thing for him. very very simple concept, And soul systems im quite sure ur very very far off the point and im thinking its the cause of misreadingfarmboy wrote:ok it is not showing when you are on or off but showing how long you are on vacation then when you come back you can turn it off then people know that you will sign contracts again
I noted that Tycoon had taken the time to expose the exact reasons why an online/offline feature would never be implemented. Those reasons revolve around adverse effects of such feature. She believes that an online/offline feature would have those effects as consequences. I believe so as well, but I'm ready to understand you'd have a different opinion, and that's perfectly fine with me. I mean, it's just my opinion they would happen, but I have no particular proof it would, just like you have none that it wouldn't. I simply consider it more likely that it would than not. It's just an opinion based on my own personal experiences.
Still, assuming online/offline would have those effects Tycoon fears, I easily see your suggestion, while being a different one, having similar effects.
As stated in my original post, I did understand your sugestion as being an "I'm away for x days" easy one-click toggle feature, and wrote my above post with that in mind. Especially the last part, exposing my more personal belief of consequences, and personal greatest concern, rather than reviewing Tycoon's: I think it's cool that people who wish to tell others about such things, have the opportunity to do so in their VIP showcase, on the forum boards, in IGMs, etc. I think it's not cool if it were a feature so accessible in the game, that the community would take it granted, and expect everyone to use it when they leave -including people who would rather not but would feel pressured into it, or casual players who don't run longer than standard 24 hour batches and only log on every x days as a normal thing-. I can already picture the igms reading like "Hey, you've had my contract for 2 days already. The awesome "I'm away for x days" feature isn't for dogs".
What the two of you are basically answering, is that your suggestion is not what I understood, but rather an "I'm away for x days" easy one-click toggle feature
While I did use a parallel that I did -and still do- consider appropriate with the online/offline feature, I do not believe there has been a misunderstanding on what you were suggesting, featurewise.

The idea is just to state Im gone for x days. Dont expect an answer. People who log in not very often would not use it cause there not going somewhere or not loging in for nothing, U kept going beside the point tho. The thing is to say im gone for a long time u may canceled the contacts if u whish, Its not a feature of online or offline, It means IM GONE, The reason of X days is that Im gone u may cancelled the contracts but i want them back like normal when im back and im back in approx x days.
