Information about production facilities before buying them

Post by Guest » 06.05.2010, 12:57

There is something missing for me, and I can imagine for many other players as well, in the information that is available prior to buying a plantation or a factory. Like in the real business world I make my calculations before deciding if to set up a new production facility and which one, or not at all. For this to be possible I need as much information in advance as possible, for example about what kind of raw material and in which quantities I shall need them, plus the expected cost for producing the finished product. At the moment, to my knowledge at least, this can only be seen after one has bought the plant when opening the scroll down in Production.

My suggestion is therefore, for example similar to the table available about factories, to have a table that tells you all of this. If it does not make the existing table too big it could even be included in it. One wants to minimise one's risks when setting up a plant, and in general before investing into anything new really, and therefore such information is of utter importance.

Just like in the real business world, all of that information is available (via the help menu and other sources) you just have to work a little bit to get it. If they put every piece of relevant information right there at your fingertips, not only would this game be ridiculously clunky and buggy, but it wouldn't be any fun at all.

between the help menu, the stats page, and the market listings, there is enough information to decide whether you are to gamble on the profitability of a product/building, etc. The only things that are not readily available are the elements of the game that are intended to be hidden, such as the quest lists and special buildings items.

If you want a game that requires no thought or work, and has the same perfect outcome every time you play, there are plenty of those out there. I personally like that it takes some digging and calculating before a decision is made on production/building.

Thank you very much for your help, ephemera and NYK. Though I agree with ephemera that it is more interesting to "have to work a little bit to get it" so far I have not found the required information on the game site itself. Therefore it is a very welcome discovery thanks to NYK that there is the Kapitools website. This I want to explore in detail at next.

Again, thank you very much to both of you.
