I just looked at the market for some iron ore and coal thinking to perhaps save some money and do business with a fellow player.

well, with stones going for 20-22 currently, there is no incentive whatsoever to produce iron ore/coal (especially low qualities) for a reasonable steel-producing price (would be around 10-12).
Biggest Problem no Realm 2 is that there are not enough people playing it. That's the reason why as soon as a big producer (power, stone, oil, everything) goes into large expansions, the prices shoot up like crazy, pulling all of the economy with them.
