My Concern
As most of you know by now The Damned was screwed by the programmers, losing everything he had. This was a wake up call for me as it caused me to wonder whether or not the programmers are backing up their data. Could the same thing that happened to The Damned happen to any of us simply because our data is non-recoverable if it's lost? Should I quit wasting my time and just quit the game now or should I risk it all and keep playing? Isn't it the responsibility of the folks that run this show to make sure that this stuff doesn't happen or at least to make sure that it can be reversed if it does happen? I think we deserve some answers. I'm not sure that I'm prepared to continue playing this game if something like this could happen at any moment.
Well, as i do agree with your statement "Isn't it the responsibility of the folks that run this show to make sure that this stuff doesn't happen" and i also agree that the programmers should fix problems not just say "they are unfix able" i don't agree that you should stop playing, sure kapilands has some problems but it is still a reasonable game, and i think you personally have sunk some money into the game (buying coins i mean) that just to quit (to me) then you would have been wasting your money.
You're right, but now I'm afraid to buy anymore coins or do anything really because all of my stuff could be taken from me at any moment for no good reason at all.Myth wrote:Well, as i do agree with your statement "Isn't it the responsibility of the folks that run this show to make sure that this stuff doesn't happen" and i also agree that the programmers should fix problems not just say "they are unfix able" i don't agree that you should stop playing, sure kapilands has some problems but it is still a reasonable game, and i think you personally have sunk some money into the game (buying coins i mean) that just to quit (to me) then you would have been wasting your money.
Well, obviously the owner of Kapiland has to be responsible. I don't know if it's possible to sue Upjers if they refuse to recover the data. But screwing up the account of a guy and not doing something to recover or compensate is definitely unacceptable.
It's just like Apple selling Ipod, and then in the instruction manual it says "Do not press the PLAY button! Otherwise you risk your Ipod being explode!"
Obviously ridiculous.
How about what they screw up is a website of a company, including the database of their customers? Can they refuse to recover and just walk away? I don't think they can defend themselves legally in that way even though in contract terms they say they are irresponsible for data loss. It just violates the spirit of contract.

Every online game has the risk of losing the data wether it be an individual or a group...thats the chance you take with an online game.
The programmers can only retrieve if notified within a certain time frame..storage is not cheap and this game most likely needs way more than it has...but even with more storage data can still be lost..thats life.
As for the Bank.by now everyone who reads this forum knows there is a problem with the Bank and it would be silly of them to not be carefull or better still dont use the darn thing...until its fixed..which I assume will eventually come...especially if we as players keep pushing the point(note to Moderators...Fix the Bank.!!!!!
If you wish to quit thats your business but as in any game wether online or on your own system at home there are inherent risks. When they fix the 2 you complained about there will be others...will you then again threaten to quit

Sucks that that guy lost all his stuff to his account for bad loans. I surely would think that no bank could repo that much fixed assests on a loan of 10% of his FA, well goes to show you the pen is indeed mightier then the sword!!! I still don't see how they could not reset his account with building he had and what not. It jsut data and the game administer should be able to easily set size of buildings.
just my thoguths on everything I have read. I wouldn't quit a game cause of something that happened to someone else If i enjoyed it.

In the condition you accepted to play the game, where the backupliandri wrote:Well, obviously the owner of Kapiland has to be responsible. mentionned ?
I don't think so....

well think of it like drinking a can of coke, you cant stop drinking it in the middle cause theres a risk of it falling on the ground, keep drinking and if it drops just walk away. if not well. good thing you didnt throw it away. and this is very rare and the risk of it happening again is tiny! (i just hope it doesnt happen to me lol)
Storage IS cheap nowadays.pk121 wrote:storage is not cheap and this game most likely needs way more than it has...but even with more storage data can still be lost..thats life.

Cost should not be a factor. Hardware failures can happen and so the cost of backups should be factored into any business model.
I'm sure that The Damned would not have minded losing a couple of days worth of production but the simple fact is he lost his entire account with no option to recover from any old backups.
Not if you have a sensible backup strategy.megg wrote:Was the problem of not being able to retrieve the data of The Damned caused, because the administrators had actually backed up the previous day's activities, before The Damned contacted them?
Don't most backups overwrite the previous data that was saved?
My company uses 2 sets of Mon-Thurs tapes, 4 sets of Fri tapes and takes seperate monthly backups as well.
Using 1 set of tapes is not a backup strategy as you can easily overwrite your one good backup with a corrupt copy.
being a TiB company Milenko would have been able to provide (and did - based on what i have read so far) a reasonably close copy of his company that would have only lost a few days development if it had been replicated. also it should be noted that although we were but a few days into a new contest he had already bought and posted over a million contest product...if his account hadn't developed difficulty he would have been fighting for a top 3 finish.
i'm sure he would have been satisfied if they had at least restored his company to the state it was in when he last updated his TiB company presentation. after all he did what he was supposed to, he reported the problem quickly, it's not his fault that there is only 1 person who could help with the problem and that 1 person went on holidays.
the program still shows his fixed assets and cash at the same level as it has been when the bug was first reported so surely the information should be there somewhere. how about the programmers doin' the right thing, FIX his company and help restore our faith in the integrity of the game providers.....
