This player must have created and account and then never actually logged in. 01.01.1970 is used as a default time in such a case.

Possibly put the wrong email address in so couldn't access with that account.

Yes, that happens indeed. It's also possible he decided on another company-seat after having created that first account and then didn't delete the first one but created a new one right away... or he decided to play on the other Realm instead. Another possibility.
