There are no 2 primes numbers which have 1001 as product.

MM is right

I think MM and Warrior are correct. The closest I could get would be using three prime numbers (not 2) 7*11*13=1001.

And if I remember school correctly (it's been many, many years since I was in school) only prime numbers themselves have only two factors and 1001 is not a prime number. (1,7,11,13,77,91,143 and 1001) are the factors of 1001. Athough I may have missed a couple in there.

[Edit]Apologies there. Didn't mean to imply that non prime numbers couldn't be the product of two prime numbers. Example: 21(non prime) product of 2 prime prime numbers (3 and 7). I should think better before I post.

wikipedia.com wrote: In mathematics, a prime number (or a prime) is a natural number (greater than one) which has exactly two distinct natural number divisors: 1 and itself.
So 1001 is NOT a prime number.

yes it is, a prime number is when TWO numbers are multiplied to get the number, not three

Uhm, if there are 3... there are 2, just multiply any 2 of those to reduce the number of faktors to 2.

7*143 = 1001
77*13 = 1001
11*91 = 1001

1001 definitly is no prime number.

eeeeee?

77 is not a prim he has 1 7 11 etc

Post by Guest » 16.03.2008, 03:09

ok? no one is talking about 77

11 x 91 = 1001

Post by Guest » 16.03.2008, 23:27

Um,

91 is not a prime number. 13 x 7 = 91

You only have to test primes less than 31. Since root (1001) ~31 you can see that 31*31=961, 31*37=1147. Any primes above 31 don't need to be tested because when multiplied by another prime above 31, the product is more than 1001 i.e. one of the factors must be below 31.
So we can test factors 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 23, 29 by simply dividing 1001 by them.
1001 divided by these numbers produces whole numbers with 7=143, 11=77.
143=13*11, and 77=7*11 so neither 143 or 77 are prime numbers, therefore MM Unlimited is right and no 2 prime number's products are 1001.

Good contest but uhhhhh, you're not going to get a winner :(
