Now this is actually interesting to me and I'm open to correction. I did say "pretty powerless" and "mostly figureheads," a statement I made mostly on the basis of my knowledge of the Parliament Acts.

As I understand it they don't have the power to actually stop any laws, much less force them through - only to delay them. Exemplified by a move earlier this year to actually replace the House of Lords with an elected body. Naturally the House of Lords itself opposes the move but it hasn't gone away.

But I am on the wrong side of the pond to really understand, and I'd appreciate a better summary if you have the time.

Hmm, its difficult to understand their power if you just think of it as 'legislation delay.' Think of the special extremely powerful committees (armed forces, intelligence, finance) setup within the US senate and think of the lords functions as kind of similar to those. Obviously the most well known committee is the judicial one of 'Law Lords' (which cannot be superceded by anybody, including the legislative branch) but there are others who quite literally grease the corridors of power. The lords are comprised of some of the most powerful individuals in the country, representing a varying number and type of interests, including much of the funds that the parties require :P

Whilst their legislative power has been severely curtailed...I still think they are an extremely influential (and highly regarded) institution.

Huh. That does sound extremely hard to quantify, but gun-to-my-head I couldn't tell you all the powers of any particular Senate Committee either. I know their official purpose it the origination of bills, but when you get into oversight and such it gets far more intricate.

So glad we don't have royalty over here. Though it if would save us from the endless array of Lindsay Lohans and Paris Hiltons, I'd be willing to put up with a Duchess or two.

Could the answer be,,,
"Eventually!"?

And if that is the answer then the next question could be,,,
"When will gas sell faster in Mauritania than say France?" :D

I mean once the European markets are flooded with really high quality gas, will low quality gas sell faster in say Africa/Middle East?

P.S. Will KapiLand go global in the next version? It could really get interesting then.

Myth i think he means the countries where you can build. You can only build in France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, Turkey etc.
You can't build in, the Americas, Asia, Australia etc.

Oh yes, The House of Lords and The House of Commons.
The House of Lords being for the rich
And in incredibly bad taste, The House of Commons, the connotation being that if you are not a Lord then you are a Commoner.

Why not just call them what they are, instead of the house of lords call it the house of parasites.
Instead of the House of Commons call it the house of regular people who are NOT emotionally retarded philosophically misguided.
Let me stop you there. The house of lords and the house of commons are not political parties in the uk.

There are 3 major parties in the Uk

Labour, Conservatives, Lib Dem.

Not to mention loads of minor partys. BNP, SNP, Green Party, No to Eu etc.

The house of lords and commons are a checking system. You DO NOT have to be rich to get into the house of lords. The house of lords (At the moment) are not ellected and are placed there. The house of lords actually has very little power.
