I only get it working in IE, so if you're using some other browser that's likely the problem. It specifically won't work with Mozilla, which is what Firefox and Thunderbird are built off of. My preferred Opera wasn't too agreeable either.
If you run IE, it can work though. Make sure you have the path correct so that the end of the path you put in leads to the two directories (pics and styleman). For example, for me it was C:\Temp\kapiland_gfx\kapiland-gfx\
(it will double up your backslashes to store them, that won't hurt. Or you can juse use the forward slash "/" instead.)
Note that the unzil utility wanted to create a kapiland_gfx directory and a kapiland-gfx one within that. So if you extracted both, you need both in the path.

I personally don't know how to deal with the GFX-pack at the moment... but we'll find a solution for that. 
Just an advice: It certainly works on all of the browsers that Knolls pointed out. Only Opera doesn't work with it.

Oh really? Like I said, my preference is Opera, and I might just get it working here with enough playing in options or even with widgets. (Not that I'm likely to.)
But the profile page says "GFX is not working with Mozilla!" so I took that at it's word. Without a browser handy to test I can't give any first-hand input. But I'd try fiddling by putting "file:c:/..." at the beginning.

Well... as I said before: I am not that good in technics and I didn't get it going, either.
But in the German profile there isn't anything about "Mozilla"... and I know someone working with Mozilla's FireFox and he can use the GFX-pack.
I really don't know why it shouldn't work in here, too...
