This would give the idea of shared resources, having companies band together in a corporation with their own space away from the rest of the world would allow free trading to take part between them, but for a profit on a higher level. This could create a higher economy faster, and get the game progressing a little, as well as help bring new companies into the game faster with more experienced players.
There should, however, be a limit to how many players can be in a corporation at one time (with the ability to expand the corporation license to allow more players at a much higher cost - like expanding buildings) and should start probably around 5-10 players initially. As well, it should cost a large amount to create a new corporation - so that everyone doesnt just create their own.
IF the game had an ingame fourm, I'd say that there should be a seperate fourm for corporations, but maybe have a posting wall for communication.
The leader of the corporation should be able to elect to his members what products he wants to strive towards, so that he can get the participation and resources from his members.
Any thoughts?

There are several trading cooperations in the German version of the game, which also have their own, separate forum.
(I did not understand what you meant with: with their own space away from the rest of the world would allow free trading to take part between them...)
Just wanted to mention that there is the general possibility to establish a cooperation.
These cooperations should, however, keep the rules in mind, which prohibit contracts with extreme high/ low prices...
