The infinite Universe

i admit i am and idiot but if the univers is only so big then what would happedend if we somehow got to the "edge" or the end then what? Are we like that old movie (about 2% of the people will know what im talking abouthere) the "truman show" shere where he is incased in a huge dome the size of a small city and when he finaly gets over his frar of water and gets to the edge of his "universe" he just bumps into a walland cant go anny further?
theres 2 theories either the big crunch or the big yawn
the big crunch is where gravity takes control and we all get mulled back o our point of origin
the big yawn is where we continue expanding forever due to the forces getting so large tehy out strech the gravitational fields to far
and also the universe is measured as infinite as we cant see the edge as it originall moved away close to the speed of light and since there was sod all light and as we contiue to move apart there are still at least 25,000 earth years worth of expansion we havent yet even started to see but its aging as per normal meaning we will never catch up making the universe infinite

isn't the universe dependant on you points of reference and defined by what you are trying to encapulate in that universe.
for example, we stand on an insignificant planet in the milky way and we can only really see as much of the universe out there as our meager looking glasses can see from our vantage point. just like when we stand on our porch we can only see as far as the horizon.
then the is the electonic universe, can anyone really explain wher it is...how big etc?????
maybe oneday God, (or advanced space aliens) will explain it to us in language we can understand. who really knows??????

You must understand that new stars are born and old stars explode every day, and that IS over an infinite space. The Universe is not the planets, galaxies, or stars. It is the void that they exist in. they can only exist in one part of it, or they might be spread infinitely. We do not know. But the universe can never end, making it infinite. And remember, the big bang theory is just a theory! it has not been proven correct yet, and until that happens, you cannot be so sure.
hmmm another idea maybe-
I have read that scientists think that if you blast off from any planet anwhere in the galaxy and go in a straight line you will(after a very long time) get back to where you started... but if you send another rocket off also going in a straight line but going 90 degrees in the other direction then that will also arrive back but they wont ever cross paths... that would make the universe finite and would also make it in the shape of a 3D doughnut...
now thats a theory XD

Maybe we are still in the middle of a Big Bang, supporting the theory of the expanding universe, (you know what happens when things explode).suppliers inc wrote:With an infinate amount of space, how do you know there may not have been 2 big bangs, or heck maybe even 100 of them.
And talking about infinity. what about causality?
->Causality:Causality denotes a necessary relationship between one event (called cause) and another event (called effect) which is the direct consequence of the first.
lets look at it from that point of view:
If there is or was a Big Bang there must have been something that caused it, because when something occurs there is always a cause and a result, the result being the cause of yet another event being the cause...and so on.
This has gone on forever and will never stop.
So what if I am wrong and it will eventually stop?
What would be the result?
And what will that result cause to happen?
And what if it has not always been like that?
What if "it" just started at one point?
Well..something must have caused it to start..and there we go again....
Wikipedia:
->According to Sowa up until the twentieth century, three assumptions described by Max Born were dominant in the definition of causality:
1. "Causality postulates that there are laws by which the occurrence of an entity B of a certain class depends on the occurrence of an entity A of another class, where the word entity means any physical object, phenomenon, situation, or event. A is called the cause, B the effect.
2. "Antecedence postulates that the cause must be prior to, or at least simultaneous with, the effect.
3. "Contiguity postulates that cause and effect must be in spatial contact or connected by a chain of intermediate things in contact."
However,
according to Sowa, "relativity and quantum mechanics have forced physicists to abandon these assumptions as exact statements of what happens at the most fundamental levels, but they remain valid at the level of human experience."
Ok, so quantum mechanics seem to "prove" there is such a thing as chaos at a fundamental level so without any order or logic to it...
well in that case we might as well stop trying to make sense of it all.
making sense of the universe is simply impossible since many things are paradoxal in their explanations and therefor can drive you absolutely crazy.
-> Paradox:can be an apparent contradiction that actually expresses a non-dual truth (cf. Koan, Catuskoti).
The universe is not a ball. It is rather like a goofy string of bubbles.
It does have finite ends.
We believe we have heard the bounce of backround longwaves off of that boundry.
There is nothing beyond the boundries, not even "space."
This is the last conversation I ever thought I would get invlved in when I registered today, let alone the first.
Hi everybody.
