It would be nice to have the :re msg so people know what u re talking about like with e-mails. so when u hit reply u have the old message in there saying "on blahblahblah xxx wrote: hi there" and then you add your reply.

The [quote]tags[/quote] work.  When you reply to someone their message is on the page above you.  All you have to do is copy the part you want and stick it between [quote]tags like these[/quote].

If this was done by default, that would be a number of resources dedicated to something that's generally unnecessary.  

And maybe it's just me, but is it that hard to keep track of the subject anyway?  The subject line always carries over, so it's not hard to keep track if you can break out of the habit people have of labeling 95% of their messages "hi".
