Use of points

Post by Guest » 10.05.2007, 09:03

As far as I'v understood the meaning of points, they are only worth status.
I think it would be great if you could link them to production. It could be possible in a few ways:

Certain score levels could provide an additional quality bonus to your production output, for example:I have 30 score and produce apples,
(apples Q1, water Q0 and seeds Q1) for a score of 30 you get 1 additional Q so it would be Q3/3 = Q1 apple, then for a score of 300 you get another Q bonus etc.

Or same thing could be applied for improving the speed of production instead of additional Q or maybe lower production costs, but personaly I do like the Q-thing most. 8)

but hes saying it will grow exponentially ...
in other words:
+1 bonous research at 80 points
+1 bonous research at 400 points
+1 bonous research at 2000 points
+1 bonous research at 10,000 points
+1 bonous research at 50,000 points
+1 bonous research at 250,000 points

or something better defined by the coders/creators. but the exponential difference is defined so that not more than 1Q item output can be gained easily without more than 2000 points for lesser items (like those in mines with power, water, and research) ... Cars could only gain +1Q output with 250,000 points. (which wont be reached even after years - as those many points are not in the german version yet lol)

but it would give more reason to try and win contests - or try and create special buildings

I don't like it even on a fundamental level. One of the basic tensions of economics is whether to devote resources to production, or to increasing productive capacity.

In Kapilands terms, how do I use this million caps I'm holding? Do I use it to win a contest, complete a quest, or buy a luxury item - so I can have a place on the leader scoreboard? Or do I use it to expand my factories and start some new research, so I'll have more money for more points down the line? These decisions make games challenging and fun.

If you can score points and improve production at the same time, that's just not interesting.

On top of which, giving an advantage to leaders is not a good strategy anyway. They already the most profitable, why implement something that would increase their lead over everyone else?

I think that would give an incentive to all those companies that are getting big and it would get everyone involved in all of the contests. You don't have to have to many "quality" upgrades in the score you have, just enough to give them a reason to compete in contests.

Well, then the system should only affect those points gathered in the actual game, so no accumulation of points from previous realms. It may be true that it would slightly (if you make the limits exponential) benefit rich companies, but it would actually do something with status in a strategic way, contests would become more intresting for more players idd and special buildings also and by consequence also products for quests 8)

What if certain amounts of scores do get you something, but not something that increases production?

As in, the sort of thing that online games often give to premium members
(but not currently in this game), such as two colour choices for part of the display, more smilie choices, or a small downloadable (?) program to put GMT and one's native time next to each other in the office page or something.

I'm sure there are plenty of other small ideas that will make status type things worth more to aim for, but not actually give financial advantages.

Ooh, what about the ability to have your company name in italics or a different font when sending faxes or displaying in the market? 8)

Or the ability to see the previous page worth of faxes as well as the current one? :P
