Stones as contest product ?

Post by Guest » 01.08.2010, 21:25

not one to normally question these type of things, but come on !
[rant]
is it really that hard to choose a product for a contest ?
the ones with the most money will win, and those producers will not be able to sell at a high price due to the npc !
[/rant]

remember the contest product poll? Stones got a good amount of votes in that poll.
It's not that strange to see it as a product now, as many people voted for it, so it's a popular thing.

and as for those with the most money / those who produce it will win arguements... that goes for every single contest no matter what the product is.
and producers can sell for a higher price, they can send out contracts for 26.99 caps each. ;)
(Most stone contracts usually go for like 18 caps each, so a 26+ caps contract is a good profit in comparison)

if you don't like a certain contest, wait 2 weeks, there will be a new one and maybe that one will appeal to you more.
there's always some people that dislike a certain contest, that won't change no matter what.

i agree with all of the above, except...
for producers in a "normal" contest (i.e. non raw mats q0) the price paid by those entering the contest is way above the regular prices.
all this has done is put a cap on the sales price to 26.99 !
what producer can get rich on that ?

Honestly I make good money on stones anyway, if I were to send out contracts for 26.XX instead of 18.00, I would consider that a very good profit.

I know it's not the HUGE price increase that you get with most products, but it's not like there's no profit at all. :)
each contest has its own good sides and bad sides, some are great for making money, others aren't as good for making money.
This one might not be as good but there can still be a profit in this for the producers.

Luckily the contest is not really about bringing profits so those arguments are not very convincing. If you can make money out of the contest... good. If not... who cares?

And, m0pdq, don't worry, the contest product is always wrong or bad; sometimes for you, sometimes for others. That's it. :)

Hehe, i agree completly with you GoldenEye, the only problem I see around here is the NPC price, cause the producers would like to sell the stones for around 1.000,00 caps each, instead of 27,00. LOL

That's a typo, right?! There's a cap on the market, which, as previously stated, end up at 26,99

Just a small hint VerConMat... 18.00c each is not the usual price on contracts for stone sellers.

I had a buyer before the stones contest for 25 caps each, and I have seen 2-3 offers in the "Product Purchase" section of the forum where people offer at least 22-24 caps each per stone.

So profits haven't increased much... :(

However, this is a bit different to normal contests. There is an unlimited supply of stone from the NPC, so this contest is virtually "How much money can you spend". :P

I actually don't feel a need to repeat myself over and over again.
I have a feeling that this discussion could last longer than the actual contest. :)

The contest ends this friday, and then this chaos of unprofitable unlimited contests will be over. ;)

Just can't let this one pass.

Yes, stones got votes in the silly contest election (who knew it was only a primary? ) but that could have been newbies or "revolt votes," or any number of dynamics at play. Either way, the voting and the lackluster choice of a NPC product both lead one to question the espirit de corp of the Upjers gang at this point. It smacks of sheer boredom on their part. And that is a scary proposition.

I love these games (I also play regnum, where getting a contest at all is like pulling teeth with chopsticks) and I know it takes a lot of work for Upjers to produce them. But if they are this burned out.... :(

I have no strong feelings either way although I am a little perplexed.

I thought one of the aims of the contests was to give an earnings boost to the newer companies. Stones as a contest product has quite the reverse effect as the newbies trying to expand are having to pay top dollar for their stones.

Just my two cents.

my last comment on this (honest!)
*puts cynical hat on*
maybe the plan is as follows......
get everyone who can to spend there hard earned cash on coins
sell the coins to get caps
spend the caps on stones
repeat !
*takes off hat*
but i doubt upjers would stoop that low !

Or maybe it's just a contest for stones..

The idea of the contests is to bring some variety to the game, so if all NPC products were taken away from possibly being the contest product there wouldn't be full variety,

This is the first NPC product i've seen in the year of playing and i don't see what difference it makes, infact compared to most mine contest products this might actually be the most profitable, i remember profit on one actually being less than stones for a few days of the contest (stones at full NPC price)

Why ranting? This gives a few weeks time to take properly care of production/selling units - without having to bother about friday night...

There are many and huge mines at work anyway which will sum up to a huge offer and *yawn* verly little contest demand - like usually...

Lets see how low the price for stones will drop shortly...
