"Realm discussion" Board

Post by Guest » 02.04.2010, 12:01

We have a general discussion at the top of the forum related to both Realms and I've seen people having to go in and ask "What realm are you?"... How about for each realm we have a board where we can discuss things purely about that realm. Would just be useful I think- and not too hard.

But some things relate to both forums. I just think making sure people have to add waht realm they are talking about or both. Simples

Well lets be honest people don't think about that when posting their thread usually- they think it's obvious and getting responses takess nad extra hour while they go eat their food come back and tell us all what realm they're on

We should keep the mixed one of course, but surely adding 2 more boards isn't THAT much effort?

Point taken but usually it takes for a reply any way.

It shouldn't take THAT much effort but neither should a proper FAQ :!:

Actually a faq requires more work.
Collecting questions, rewriting them, answering them, coding them, posting them...

But adding a subforum to a board category is about 3 clicks and two words of typing. (on most boards :P)

But that still hasn't been done.

Idea, couldn't we build a different board somewhere esle and work on replys there?

It was a project that Azer started, but he's gone for a month to move to france, he could return any day now. :P

Just be patient for a little longer, I'm sure he'll pick it back up once he returns.

Also like my post in general secton earlier asking a question about the realm 2 ideal price of stones- that could have gone in this discussion board, but instead i had to put it there. I added the R2 part though.

If I hadn't put the realm in though and started asking about something like gas and it's ideal average selling price in a store in France at Q25 then we'd come out with answers varying from 70-140 (R1-2 average estimations made).

If we had these realm specific boards though it could bring the realm as a whole closer together. Let's be hoenst as well, the FAQ will be good, but they don't really have answers that cahnge from realm to realm on them do they? They're the game basics- the kind of questions people might be asking is "How much is an afghan worth?", "What's the average price to sell gas to a person via contract and via stores?", "Why has the power price gone up to 2.00caps each?" Ok while the last in unrealistic you get the idea. You can't answer a question which has varying answers in an FAQ.

Yeah I do see a lot of people discussing stuff on the board, then later going "wait, what realm are you in? your prices are wrong!" and it turns out people from different realms are discussing a product.

Having a seperate discussion board might be a good thing to have in such realm-specific cases. :)

But honestly... how often are these discussions?
And how many discussions are here at all?
And in how many cases would a simple "I am talking about R1/2"-hint help to solve the problem? Here are some people playing both R1 and R2 - and it they do not differ too much from each other.

From my point of view seperate R1-R2-sections would only lead to more "mixing up" than it would help.
And think about possible further realms... the forums would become more and more stretched and even confusing.
But anyways, thanks for your idea. :)

There aren't many discussions but a new person wouldn't know to put it in generl discussion and might just be worried, a discussion board entitled

"Realm 1 Discussion" Which is under the realm 1 banner(where the Sales and Purchasing threads etc are) then they would definatley know.

Also like I said previosuly people forget, it isn't hard like I start talking about an idea i've had earlier in the day to someone and they go "what the hell are you on about?!" And to me it's blindingly obvious i'm going on about, but to them i could be on about a number of things, in this case realm 1 or 2.

And crowding the forums when we get new realms... I'm sorry, but it's 1 more board thingy... it's not overcrowding it.

Putting in

Questionner: *Question1*
Person 1: "Is this Realm 1 or realm 2?"
Person 2:"Yeah we need to know what realm it's in"
Person 3:"Well for realm 1 *answer1* but for realm 2 *answer2*"
Person 4:"Nah your realm 1 *answer1* is wrong it should be more like *answer3*"
Person 3:"I'm sure that *answer1* is better than *answer3* because of *reason1*"
Person 4:"BUT If you consider *reason2* then *answer3* is better than *answer1* by a mile!!"
Questionner: Well I'm realm 2 so *answer2* was all I needed... thanks!

That is a waste of space, overcrowding and a load of wasted time and useless points.

So is this whole post I just made to be perfectly honest. It could be done in a matter of 3minutes... This post took me 5 minutes to write... If it didn't work out then it would take 1minute to remove, all in all this suggestion could have been implemented and removed in the time it took to write this post... Why don't we just do it?

Well it does mean more thread/forum activity, and a realm 1 person could find his answers there later on. :P

both have their pros and cons.

-Seperate subforums means realm-specific questions are 'sorted' easier, but it also pulls apart the low activity that the forum has left.

-not seperating them can be confusing at times, but that could be solved by mentioning the realm that you play on, if you ask a realm-specific question.

I agree with VerCon that it might be better having the long conversation. There are so few of us left. We need away to get the forum more active.

That won't happen by confusing the newcomers... When you're new to a forum you usually have no idea where to go and what to do. If you want ultimate forum activity then put the forum in game and make it so that you don't need to sign up a seperate account to access the forums!!!

That is why they are so lame, you sign up for the game and it's pretty boring at first unless this is your thing, you get stuck check help if you can be arsed or just go straight to the forum and try to ask then it asks you to sign up to that?!?! "Pff screeeew that!" And they leave forever.

Well if people are too lazy do a 15 second thing for a one time login, then there's not much anyone can do about that.

I joined this forum in May of 2009 and I still haven't had to log in a second time since registering.
I like the seperate forum because now I won't have to log in to the game in order to get to the forums.
This is the fastest way to go to the forums, and after a few visits you've already won back those 15 seconds you needed to register seperately.

if it's inside the game you have to:
1. load the URL of the game.
2. log in. (since games won't have an always-stay-logged-in mode)
3. wait for the game to load.
4. click the forum button ingame.

if it's seperated from the game:
1. load the forum page
DONE. :P
