Fair auction

Post by Guest » 30.08.2007, 21:07

I want to propouse the following modification, for auctions :

If the last valid bid, it's less than 10 minutes left to deadline, make a new deadline = deadline + 10 minutes.

So the winner of the auction, wont be the "fast" seller, instead will be the best bid, and we can give an oportunity to all others guys interested.

For example :

Deadline : 12:00

11:53 - A bid $ 100
(the new deadline will be 12:10)
11:58 - B bid $ 110
12:00 - A bid $ 120
12:05 - B bid $ 130
(new deadline will be 12:15 <12:05 + 0:10>)
nobody bids anymore, so B win

That's a lot more fair than the actual system..

I fully agree with this. Then it's more 'who can pay the most' (like an auction should) than 'who can be the sneakiest and fastest'.

That isn't fair. An end time is and end time. If you where to keep adding time auctions would never end.

You can defend against last-minute bidders by offering more than they are willing to pay. Which I thought was the point of an auction.

You can't offer more if they bid at the last second, so your bid will be after the deadline, and therefore invalid.

Edit: Azer, the time won't go on forever, as eventually you will reach a point where no-one would want to pay any more, which is how an auction should be.

I've seen it in other games and it does work.
If you are "last minute bidder" and want to get something cheap you need to be very lucky that others miss end of auction.
If you want to win you just bid higher, and if you don't want to check auction every 5-10 minutes you just bid much higher, not just minimal bid step and others give up.

It should at least be an option.

I fully agree to become that as an option.

Extended deadline :
"You may bid right up until the deadline. If someone places an offer less than 5 minutes before the deadline, the deadline will be extended for another 5 minutes. This continues until all bidders but one retire."

With this option the GMT time discussion is dead, the same way as the "fast" buyer

Someone has done it before. I thought it was OK as an option. And btw, as I recall it ended up not mattering at all. I still wouldn't want to do it for standard though.

Well being in this auction thing, we should change buy now to buyout. Instead of it can be only be used at the start buyout would mean u buy it right now auction ends and the guy pays the buyout price, If any of u people have played WOW, (not browser game) u will know of what i speak it be much easier on everyone

No, this won't come.
This system has established itself over the past years in the German version and it works very good in here, too.
This is Kapilands and not another game... keep this in mind, please. ;)

You have to check your profile for the correct forum so GMT won't be a problem. Check the time in game and then synchronize your time in this forum. ;)

Sorry, but if I understand you correct, this is already an option. I found this in the rules:

Code: Select all

9.

@Elwood: he means a actual buyout, not a buy it now that allows the auction to keep going if theres already bids.

@GoldenEye: "this is no other game" is not reason to disregard suggestions(even if they are dumb).

@thread starter: ppl invented sniper rules to avoid having theyr auctions being bidded in the last minutes, i sugest you search abit for what they are, most game foruns use them at theyr users discretion and are not something that is enforced by the mods.

i have changed my forum time to GMT. and i bid one min before the auction end by using the forum time. but it is not the last min. there is a long way to go. hours. what happened to that?
do we have to use the forum time or the real GMT.(forum time is wrong)

So, does buy out mean that you can stop the auction at any time, by buying it out? Even if there are already valid offers? I don
