Post by Guest » 15.05.2007, 22:01

i thought of a very effective but easy anty bot system

when you register you must write the 4 digits into the thing and thats it only very very good bots can realy get by this method

More and more bots are able to do that as well. Some sites give you the disguised numbers then tell you to enter them backwards which works better still but bots still get through. And with each step you risk confusion with more and more legitmate users.

And then I'm not convinced it's all bots anyway. If you automate the process of finding the forums and getting to the right page, it's short work for a human to paste in the right bit. Some of what we've seen here, like picking a single older thread and replying to it, is either a human or a very sophisticated bot.

Not that I have a solution either. I'm afraid there are no easy answers.

Ever seen Terminator? The machines are coming to get you!

A "bot" is a small program written to perform a few simple actions repetitively. In this case, it crawls through the WWW looking for message boards, then enters in and posts a spam ad.

well for the few bots that are sophisticated egheugh to right down the jumble of letters, i think the maybe 1 every 6 month that could do that i think the mods would be fine

and to the point of confusing real users. If they cant wright a 4 numbers backwards or sutch there could be a contact administrator botton

no, i think that's fine, if a user that can't type 4 numbers backwards won't be able to register to the forum

so this method will repel bots and also stupid users

A bot or Macro or automation program is a program that plays the game for you. usually considered cheating.
I played this game once where people would use a macro to sail their ships in circles for them to gather experience, even though they were not playing the game themselves, might not have even been home or awake.

But as for here people probably set them up to buy goods on the market when they reach a certain price that they want them for.
So probably a good thing on this site, gets my goods to sell faster, if people are using a bot to buy good for them.

I don't use them myself, not sporting, plus very [censored] sometimes to let a program play your game for you.
not to mention the extra wear on your computer and monitor.

So you might be able to set up a bot for you to buy apples at $2.50 instead of $3.00 saving yourself 50 cents Kap money and all it will cost you is the $200 in real money you'll need to buy a new monitor once the Kapiland web page has been permanently burned into your screen, not to mention the cost of the bot program itself.

A wise investment to be sure.

He's not wrong, just off-topic. Traditionally in MMOs that is exactly what people would do - create bot scripts to play the game for them. And it's usually treated as cheating or an exploit. For comparison, someone could theoretically make one in Kapilands to restart production for you without intervention. Given their stance on automated production I'm sure this would be similarly frowned upon.

However, dbsuma, that's not at all what's being talked about here.

As hard as you try to stop bot the botters will come up with a new way. RS has always had a problem with bot's from day one and they are still unable to find a way to stop them. they are useing sort of 3d graphics and changing fonts colors and everything to try and stop bot's however it will not work because it takes them longer to stop botters than it does not the botters to reprogram the application.

there is no way to stop botters on the forum or the game you could not stop them from reg even if you changed how you do it the bot would just read the text, (they would make a script for reading the text then run it to get all possible combinations well all it needs is a-z and 1-9 and how they look which does not take long). once they get into the site they will do the same only it is easyer for them to do becasue the text never changes in a market all that have to do is compare two diffrent bitmaps the one they want with everyone in the list.

it is not going to be possible to stop bots unless you put a refesh cutout on, however all this would do is slow them down because they can put waits in and so on.

anything a human can do on a computer a bot can do the only diffrence being the bot is not smart and would be unable to think outside of the humans code.

this is a pointless post because what ever you say it would not make any diffrent.

if people are sad, and want to use bots there is not much you can do about it, bots are normal free and easy to come by these days not realy way to get around the problem as if you try you will make it harder for the players to play and the bot only copys the player.

you can use a picture instead of alpanumeric code, for exmple a picture of some animal or some common thing

That would maby work, it would have to be easy like spoon or something. even better computer cause there using one

i say agin that even if you use a pic the bot can check it you would have to have unlimited pic's for it to work or the bot would be able to check them and after about 42 hours of looking for them would have all of the pics. that would not work, that is the same as having codes but even easyer for bots to get past because it is not having to checks lots of diffrent bitmaps.
