Demand Tweeking

Post by Guest » 07.10.2010, 09:56

Heres my suggestion on how to improve the demand situation in the retail sector.
For anyone who dosent know much of the issue with the imbalances in the game is due to the near infinite demand for goods and lack of effective pricing in other areas.
Also it makes no sense that although we only sell a few hundred items of food a day none of our workers die off.....

SO to try and fix this I suggest two system adjustments, either together or separate
First I would suggest that the price be linked to the demand situation in a more tangible way. Currently we reach nearly 100% demand with no effect then price nose dives dramatically only to rise back to normal once supply drops to below 90% again. In the real world when market saturation occurs it reduces prices in increments not all at once once we hit the magic number.

Therefor based of the average selling time funneling into the existing price formula I want to implement ->

At under 5% of demand The avg selling time will be only 1/5 of normal therefor increasing volume sold drastically its a beginning incentive essentially
AT under 10% 30%
AT 10-25% time is half
25-40% time is 75% of normal.
AT 40-50-70% The average selling time remain constant with given prices
AT 70-80 Time is 125%
AT 80-90 Time is 150%
at 95 > Time will be 200%

This system will generate far more realistic not to mention easier to implement solution to several of the existing problems that exist in kapi atm. We have the issue of mainstreaming in some industries, biggest example is wardrobes where full NPC product being used to produce the end item in vasy quantity. Introducing this proposal will halt if not reverse the gigantic over allocation of resources into a few areas back towards the tiny industries that are obviously stupidly under resourced, all you have to do is run down the supply and demand lists and count the number of items that are under 1% to see my point. I mean pears are at o.0005% or demand at the moment in R2! Come on!

Secondly this is a patch solution to our inflation problems we can again drag the capacity of players into growing industries which now have a unrealized chance to grow with production and fix the mistakes we find with the current industries where we dont seem to be getting production leveling off with demand in retail space.

Also where retail is grossly overrepresented in some areas due to competing products eg. If gas sales reduce due to its demand then factory space will turn to plastic which alleviates the exploding prices in both realms ect ect

This may also require some tweeking to the actual demand stats since in most areas the demand is simply too high to ever be sated....ever! Its a case of 10x as many people as there are jobs which throws up demand like nothing else! Brining this back onto even keal will be essential in tackling this problem.

Next Idea in next post!

Secondly:
Ive been toying with this idea for a while, it will require a fairly large change to the current system, vastly more than the first but there's no harm in expressing it

I recon that we need to address the fact that whilst we sell every person in kapi a dozen wardrobes we dont give then enough food unless their sick or homeless =)

So tiered production!
Tier One: Basic Necessities
  • Raw Foods (Fruit)
    Clothes
    Bread, meat
    ect
Tier Two: Basics
  • Highly Processed Food
    Most Chem Factory Products
    Toys
Tier Three: Goods
  • Cars
    Consumer Electronics
    Ect
Tier Four: Luxury Goods
  • Cabs
    Jewels
    Ect
Now for each of these tiers need the tier below then to be at above 50% total demand (thats the 'mean' demand across the tier) to be highly profitable. If there is less that 50% then selling time is drastically increased until we start feeding the population =). Once we reach 50% in tier one its open season on the tier above! Again this will place emphasis on producing those historically low production goods such as fruit and food.

It will take a rather large reworking of the system including reduction in demand so we can fill it so it wont happen but I do want to see what yall think of it.

Good idea in my opinion. I like your stratification by importance (e.g. food is a must, but people can survive without cabriolets) as it is really stupid that kapi people buy millions of wardrobes while they dont require coffee, cocoa, candy etc. (maybe they are termites? but then they would prefer tables) And also it is very boring to have people just buy from npc and produce silly quantities without any fun. Upjers should really rethink this game and remake it to make it more interesting or this game will continue dying.

Thanks greed,
Anyway what im focusing on is easy, workable solutions
I figure that the change im asking for would be a 2 hour job for one of the programmers and we would see immediate effect but not so much that the players would be adversely effected in any way, it would only effect new players and not so much that they would have any major advantage over the established giants.
Does anyone know a way we can get in direct contact with someone from upjers, I would like to get a sense of how much they are willing to deal with players concerns, even a general email would be great!

Cool, sent her a message. Response pending I assume
Anyone want to put their names to a list of those who want change?

A petition of sorts, if we approach upjers as a whole it would be alot more successful that a single idiot like me =)
Just put your name down, ill start another topic once I get some time, right now I need to go bury a chook. Kinda random

i like it a lot.. it makes the game a lot more realistic... but only for a new realm.. i wouldn't like to see these changes in existing realms... but a new one with thiese proposals implemented..

Thanks for the support thess,
It would certinaly be a bonus in a new realm but I think it could also be implemented in this realm as well. Im only talking of my first idea here, so if we removed the drop off in demand bit and focused on boosting the profits in very low production industries we could easily create a working economy there, it wouldent effect the high production areas in any way. I know I wouldent be swaping over any time soon im too well entrenched in my favored industries but for newer players of players who are looking to change direction it would be a welcome addition. Think of it as in expantion, your welcome to keep kicking around in the same areas but with this idea we can open up a whole new playground.

Err... please do not post just "I like/hate it." as this is just useless spam. ;)

upjers can be convinced with arguments but not with "petitions". Please avoid such actions.

Hi golds,
Lets face it your not exactly run off your feet here, I count an avg of 10 posts a day across the entire forum and 3 outside the commercial sections.
Im trying to gauge how the community reacts to this proposal as well as how active they can be if they want to.

Obviously I would far prefer a detailed 8 page run on how many flaws you can find in my reasoning but to be frank for the scant posts ive goten so far im afraid that the community has lost its mojo so to speak. So im trying to get some momentum happening, hence my request. If we couldn't incite some change dealing iwth the same problems in the golden times when I could count on a well-though-out reply to almost any question from sally/azer/greed or a dozen different people within an hour almost any time of day then I fear we have little hope with the old methods of simply putting up an idea and never having any contact from upjers. Then with no response it falls by the way side due to attrition.

Whilst I have your attention, can I get my hands on the ability to make polls? I could just set one instead of 'spam posts' as you say but I dont have 'permissions'. Also I sent an IM to pearl, any way to find out if it was received? I have no response and you guys are usually very quick with such stuff.

You give me an ability to make upjers sit up and listen and im all ears.
Thanks for the interest golds

If you mean on the forum go into messages if the IM is in outbox it hasn't been recieved, if it's in sentbox it's been read, think pearlbays given up on the forum though.

Erm, no, I actually stop by here every day, unless I have a day off, am on vacation or held up by other tasks, in which case my colleagues kindly check the forums for me. ;-) And I did receive your PM Horizon, but Monday is always a little hectic, so I didn't have the time to respond yet. But you will get your response as soon as I can manage to scrounge a few minutes together, so don't worrry - and please excuse the delay.

Cheers,

NO excuse necessary as far am im concerned, I was worried I had made an error. Im doing exam prep atm so Im very aware of whats its like to be stretched too thin

Im in no way trying to accuse gold or pearls of anything or bag out the mods they do the best job anyone could expect. But I think this quote sums up the general feeling around the game. I cant talk for everybody here but it feels as if the company has walked away from the game without a backwards glance.

Pearl mentioned in her IM that the programmers has been making changes, (I assume such as the 100m-1b changes ect) This is just crumbs through, they added an extra 0 for crying out loud and expected us to pat them on the back! I mean when did we see the last meaningful change to the game?.....I simply dont remember one and I have been playing for over 2 years dunno about you. We all understand that the programmers are snowed under and I dont mind waiting but its like dealing with the government, we send out a request and usually we get no response but im always hopeful so when golds/pearls does have time to respond I jump on only to find its a combo of no time/money for the programmers.

Its the lunacy of this that really bites, upjers has a salable, profitable product yet they seem to take great pride in mismanaging it into oblivion. We scream for changes and nothing happens thats one thing but now we watch VIP accounts plummet and STILL nothing happens! Eventually this game will sink so far that it wont make a buck and they will close up the servers, gods people its salvageable wake up!

Any ability to make polls? I think I need a mod to help with that, not sure.

Thanks again for listening
