Why is there no contest?

Post by Guest » 28.05.2008, 07:02

It has been weeks since the last contest. Is there a good reason why there is currently none running?

Yes, it is... unfortunately.
I wished it would be just due to my lazyness... ;) Yet unfortunately there have been some bugs. Sending out the contest-prizes did not work properly in the last contests.

As it is more than frustrating for all of us to see that this isn't working, the people in charge decided not to start a new contest as long as the problem isn't solved.
Or do you want to invest billions of caps to win the contest, need to stay up until 23:59 on a Friday to use the last possible moment to send in your contest-product (when you could easily do some party in the same time)... and then, after many, many Caps and a lot of organisation, you don't get your prize?
And for us, who take care that the contest works fine, it is also work - and when it doesn't work as it should, it is frustrating work.
I am sure that every clear thinking user agrees with me in this case.

The programmers now think to have found the reason. Yet they will still need some time (and eventually some contests for trying) to fix the bug.

Just some final words on this: One day contests will come back, although there has been this long break.

GoldenEye

I agree with goldeneye
I believe that all members of the Kapilands should in fact help make the game better
such as send in articles to the newspaper to make it look nicer, not just sitting in front of your computer waiting someone else to write it and keep u entertained

people should help suggest ways to solve bugs, not sitting there and wait for the kapiteam to solve the problem for you

They have a job for a reason. I doubt if anyone has real coding knowledge in order to fix bugs such as this, they could create their own game.

What are you doing to fix the bug and start a new contest ?

is it all that you start a thread in forum and wait that all sheeps comes ?

How old ist the old contest ?
Is this the time for check 100 peoples ?

if your price send script doesnt work (buggy), so give me the 100 prices for the next contest and i send the price after finish.

Thats one hour in manual process.

Thats faster as your way.
The same story with the bugs - the same story i remember dezember.
6 Month later and we stay at the same position.

lol

sorry for my bad english - iam a stupid player ;)

You're more than welcome to fix the bug for us ... ;-) Obviously, if it was an easy one, we'd have already been able to fix it. Trust that we're working on it.

I don't know how you fix your certificate sending bug, but i still missing my contest certificate.
Did someone remember the last contest, where everyone get there prices?
I like PannenOlli idea, send him all the prices for next contest, i beleive he will be more efficient with prices sending.

Yes, correct, every user that wants to evade a problem by sending the prizes manually is more clever, intelligent and efficient than the programmers that try to solve that problem.
Or did I mix something up? ;)

So please... let's see what the next contest will show us. :D
And please be fair - we are fair to you as well. ;)

fair ?
if you fair so dont delete our faxes!
in the faxes we wrote, that we want contests.
fair ?

You have need over 6 month to find the bug and fix it.
For the next contest we hope that its works.

For a time over 6 month is an manually sending of prices clever, intelligent and efficient. We want contest and fun.

You search in background the problem, but we have the fun of contest.
This is clever ;)

Ans manually price sending needs one hour.
one hour all two weeks is no time between 6 Month without contest.

i am not lazy! wahts with you?

As usual GoldenEye upsets people with his sarcastic comments!!
Being diplomatic is obviously not required in order to be a mod!!

The above comment is valid. Have the programmers been searching day and night for 6 months in order to fix this? I doubt that.

Well... I try to be diplomatic and fair when I think that I am treated so, too. ;) And I won't say anything about the circumstances of being helpful.
Yet we do not want to argue about this point (although it might be interesting for you to know that due to faxes that asked users to spam my inbox I got exactly 27 IGMs via about four hours - all asking me about contests).
It does not help if people create bad atmosphere and start spamming... this only makes much more work for all of us.

About finding the bug As I am first and foremost in charge of the forums I have absolutely nothing to do with the programming. And I guess, PannenOlli, you know perfectly well about this. And you also know about the word "fairness" etc. :)
All moderators (including myself) do their work in their leisure and just for fun. We all give our best to work for a clean and nice board that you can use - we do not change codes in this game as the programmers do.
But it's okay... we cannot satisfy everyone - that's the basic thing all people "in charge" need to know.

Only one question remains: Why do people get angry now, when it has been stated that the bug probably has been found although they did not complain that much in the last months? Yet also this is not really important.

The only important thing in this question is that hopefully (and I do mean this honestly) those damn problems in sending out the prizes are now solved.
We will need a test in order to find out if everything works fine - and we will need your help for this. Further information will follow during the next days (Yes, all users with a clear view for important things might now have noticed: A new contest will come in a few days.).

And now let's close this debate about fairness and diplomatic words... just accept that I only want to help you and give my best not to make you angry. ;) And I accept that you want to play and don't want to offend the moderators (or just me).

:D

I've had some ups and downs with the mods before but still I applaud them AND the programmers for doing the brilliant job that they do. Remember, sometimes we don't know all the circumstances. There very well may be an excellent reason for the amount of time it has taken to work out this bug and personally I would rather them take their time and do it right instead of rushing through it and having to do it all over again.
